So is this the only way to get the movie, period, or is this just the only way to get that version?

Probably just that version since 88 Films is releasing it on blu in the UK.

Oh, ok, I thought 88 Films was offering this version as well. Yeah, I like The Dead Next Door, but not enough pay for versions I really couldn't care less about. The 88 Films version will be good enough for me.

88Films had previously announced this being region free, but looks like they're locking it now.

Had to go for this version. Sounds like it'll be a stacked release.

I've never even heard of this movie, but hearing about Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell's involvement has me interested.

It's really nothing special. Bruce did some adr and Raimi produced, but I don't recall his influence coming through in the film (I haven't seen it in years though). It's kind of a cult movie, but I don't remember thinking it was that great. It's very low budget.

Hey guys,

I'm actually the writer/director of this flick and a fellow forum member — appreciate the OP for helping to spread the word here, big fan of the site.

Just wanted to clarify a few of the differences between this Indiegogo Ultimate Edition and the version 88 Films will be putting out.

The UE will be region-free where the 88 disc will be locked to Region B, but both will share the restored 1080p HD transfer in 4:3 OAR and a smattering of the same extras. (We haven't finalized the complete U.K. disc contents yet, so there may be even more.)

On the plus side, 88 Films has cooked up some great original artwork for their release, which will also feature completely different liner notes.

The Ultimate Edition is really for the hardcore fans and collectors... no other distributor would probably be crazy enough to release a 3-disc set of such an obscure title, so I'm doing it myself.

If anyone's interested in staying up to date on the film or this Ultimate Edition, feel free to swing by the Facebook page and say hello!

https://www.facebook.com/thedeadnextdoor

Thanks to the folks who are contributing or just spreading the word, much appreciated!

Stay sick!
JRB

Contributed my $35 for The Dead Next Door Ultimate Edition Blu-ray last week!

Tempe Video always put out high-quality DVD releases, so I have no doubt that this will be awesome. As much as I'd love to see other Tempe titles on Blu-ray (Bloodletting and Polymorph, anyone?), I guess there's probably little benefit since most were shot on standard-def digital video. Unless, maybe, there was a Blu-ray packed with several of Tempe's greatest hits and special features. That would be cool...

Sounds like a good package for the money, though I imagine it'll look like a overly grainy on BD considering how it was filmed.

From the Indiegogo page FAQ:

Quote:
Q: What about grain? I'm a purist and hate digital noise reduction.

A: That Super-8mm frame is really, really tiny, and since the bulk of the movie was shot on higher-speed Kodak Ektrachrome stock, there will definitely be grain present. As you can see from the trailer above, we've applied a very light smattering of noise reduction to the 16:9 version so the grain won't be the size of softballs, but not so much that it no longer looks like it was shot on film. We love the look of Super-8mm, and are doing everything technologically possible to preserve that.
Sounds like they're doing it right!

You're correct, upconverting those SD shows wouldn't look any better than the existing DVDs, but I have actually entertained the idea of a "greatest hits" disc just like you've suggested, that would put a whole bunch of these older flicks on a single Blu-ray disc.

I hope to follow up DND with restored Blu-rays of ROBOT NINJA and SKINNED ALIVE, since we do have the original 16mm film elements for those...

Awesome plans. I've loved Skinned Alive since I saw it on VHS (and later DVD), and been wanting to see Robot Ninja for a while now. An SD collection on Blu-Ray? Bring it on!
