You know artists can change their answers here and there when asked things like this, likely because the question catches them off guard and they have to think on the spot, but composer Jerry Goldsmith frequently cited Islands in the Stream as his favorite of his own scores. It's lovely stuff, lavish to match the setting, warm to match the reserved pain, just a great part of this picture.

This one is a very nice surprise. It is said all the time, I know, but I didn't think this would ever get a blu ray release.
Last year when Kino Lorber announced its deal with Paramount I asked the KL Insider about Islands in the Stream. The KLI posted a reply to the effect that Kino Lorber felt that Islands was one of those dvd only type of titles and would never be interested in releasing it on blu ray. Very glad to see Imprint release this and it's always great to see another George C. Scott film released on blu. Unfortunately, Warner Archive seems to have no interest in releasing blu rays of any of its Scott titles: Petulia, The Last Run, Rage and The Formula are all titles I would buy on BD. Petulia was rumored to be with Criterion a few years ago. |

How on earth did I miss this news until I saw the review posted here today. This is probably my most wanted Bluray release remaining. I watch this movie about once a year.
I had asked about this movie a few times on the KL forum and never received a response. It is nearly criminal that excellent movies like this remain virtually unknown while every week several much lesser titles are released. Anyway, thanks to this website I became aware of the release and immediately ordered a copy. The movie review met my approval and I was very happy to see high marks for picture and sound. |

I watched this last weekend and enjoyed re-visiting it all these years latter... There's also a great supporting cast with David Hemmings, Claire Bloom and Gilbert Roland.
Here's the link to Dr. Svet Atanasov's review. https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Islan...346283/#Review |

Yeah, I noticed that also. That is why I am often hesitant to read a movie review before watching the movie. Usually if I buy a Bluray of a movie I haven't seen I don't even read the back cover because I like it to be fresh and new to me.

And let's not forget Jerry Goldsmith's magnificent score!
Can't wait to see this. |

And in most times, it isn't even a year later, many times it has been only a couple of months till a superior version comes out. Based on those time frames, you can't tell me Imprint didn't know a 4k scan would have been available. They're just cheap bastards who would rather spend less on the older inferior transfer and sell it at a premium price before the superior version is released.
