Ultraman 4K Discovery Blu-ray

Quote:
Ultraman 4K Discovery on 4K Ultra HD

Four collections of episodes from the original Ultraman series remastered in beautiful 4K. Each one centers around a theme: Life, Romance, Friendship, and Justice and features new footage made especially for this release!
No cover art yet, but preorders are up at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and the Alliance sites like DeepDiscount.

It's about 7 hours of footage, with the initial specs indicating 2 discs. This precedes the full series release of Ultraman that's coming next year.

Really excited for this! Based on this, it's going to be interesting to see what the pricing is for the complete Ultraman 1966 series.

"$79.99"

"6 hours and 55 minutes" (this is a miserly 16 episodes greedily and shadily disguised as "four collections of episodes", or "four compilation films" according to the Ultraman fandom wiki; and this is less than half the show by the way)

"Number of discs: 2"

Wowee zowee, you got your shrinkflation in my Mill Creek "boutique"* release! We really are living in the weirdest timeline aren't we!

*note that seven hours on two discs = the same shitty encoding as typical Mill Creek bargain slop except this is a worse value than the average boutique UHD TV show release from other better companies; I don't see any good reason to defend this one, but I'm sure male nerds who will buy anything related to this subgenre will find some way to justify their purchasing of this ripoff in their smug "well ackschoowilly" ass posts, possibly by noting that it's a bargain if you buy into the "four compilation films on two discs" grift and the "you're paying for early access to part of the 4K restoration" grift. And I'm sure there will be a glowing AI-generated review on this site.

So long to the middle class babyyyyyyy!

Sorry about all the bile I just wrote I just really miss the good old days when Mill Creek's entire thing was bargain bin PD 50 movie packs, ya dig?

Amazon listings are not always accurate when it come to number of discs although I would not put it past MC to be cramming onto too few discs.

Ill be keeping an eye on this. But knowing the whole series is coming next year It might be a wait and see. This is like the July Ultraman Day Blu ray releases they did in the past with spitting up about the same number of episodes on Bluray in the English dubs.

No way I'm buying the partial series, definitely waiting for the full. Scared at the cost though seeing what Mill Creek of all companies has decided to charge for what I think is their first 4K release? We'll probably get a good impression of what their mastering is like for UHDs, but I can't imagine it'll be great.

MC released some nature production on UHD a while back if I remember correctly.

I believe Running the Bases was Mill Creek's first non-documentary 4K release. Well Go also released a lesser known baseball movie on 4K: You Gotta Believe.
