Default PS3 firmware 1.11 just came out

http://www.us.playstation.com/ps3/network/updates

^^ Hasn't even shown up here yet but it will. I just turned my PS3 on right now and it signaled that this download was ready.

It'll be interesting to see what it does.

^^ Here we go. Nothing except a little refinement for the online service. At least we're seeing clear signs of support.

Wow you found a way to see this is a positive light, I know that ArsTechnica are not the fairest of judges, but they seem only to have found one real change - making it easier to spend money online. While any change as you rightly say shows support, there are a whole raft of problems with the online service that need to be fixed rather than making it easier to spend money. I am not being anti-Sony here, I rather like Sony products, but I just feel that they should get their priorities straight.

I think selling stuff online is far easier to implement than software and firmware changes, not to mention it generates income.

I'm sure SCE will continually improve the PS3 and its services.

You make some good points but the system hasn't even been out a full two weeks yet. I think about the Xbox 360 now a year later vs. when it first came out and it's a completely different animal.

The same concept will apply agian here. I'm not worried.

That's what I was getting at by getting their priorities straight, it would seem that they would rather make a quick buck off the poor gamer who just spent 500+ on their system rather then get their teeth stuck into more serious problems - i.e. slow online service/browser which seems to be hampering the whole online shopping experience for many.

Things would get better over time. The system hasn't been out for over a month so it's more like a soft opening.

Remember, it took 6 months before Xbox Live arrived to where it is now. Consequently, the videos over the XBL marketplace have nasty bandwith problems. In the same light, it is a soft opening for their video rental download service and this will get fixed over a few months.

Same analogy goes for the PS3. It would get better once firmware fixes come out and thus the kinks/bugs would be minimized.

Dont forget the couple of years with the original xbox as well. They had that time to perfect it also.
