Default Andor - Rogue One prequel series (Disney+)

Iger also announced that Lucasfilm is in development on a second Star Wars live-action series for Disney+ that will go into production next year. The series will follow the adventures of Rebel spy Cassian Andor during the formative years of the Rebellion and prior to the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Diego Luna will reprise the role of Andor, which he originated in the 2016 film. “Going back to the Star Wars universe is very special for me,” said Luna. “I have so many memories of the great work we did together and the relationships I made throughout the journey. We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us, and this new exciting format will give us the chance to explore this character more deeply.” The rousing spy thriller will explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire. A release date for the series will be announced at a later date.

Not exactly a character I was dying to see more of, but there was definitely some untapped potential in exploring his moral ambiguity and inner struggle.

And given the timeline, I hope he crosses paths with Jabba so Diego Luna can fulfill his dream:

Well, I think by now we can rule out this dream encounter. Damn you Tony Gilroy and your “no fan-service” mandate.

I do love me some Coruscant. It's quite possibly my favorite Star Wars planet.

I love how fascinated Diego Luna was with Jabba and the texture of his skin. That segment gave me a good chuckle.

Oh, and Salacious Crumb! We need that little guy too. They are a packaged deal.

Most of these ideas would be better in a big budget standalone movie or trilogy, not some low budget (for Star Wars standards) TV show. One of these might even be what the Weiss/Benioff trilogy is about.

The existence of this show doesn’t prevent any of those from happening.

That'd be fine doing shows like this then, if they were actually going to do films like that.

But instead we've got rebels (TFA), more rebels (RO), more rebels (TLJ), a smuggler film featuring rebels (SOLO), a imperial-turned-rebel video game (BF2), 4 tv seasons of Rebels, and now Resistance since the buyout. Plus another rebel movie next year (Ep 9)

I liked RO and Solo, but I am sick to death of Rebels. Where are the Jedi and the Sith, the primary idea Star Wars was built on? You don't even have to do Jedi, but there is so much potential and they insist on doing nothing but the same over and over again.

Best first reply ever

Though I think it's more a Lucasfilm/Kathleen Kennedy issue than a Disney thing. Just look to Kevin Feige. Every fan criticism was listened to and amended.

As far as Cassian goes, he was a broken man and partly dead inside by the time of Rogue One due to the things he’s had to do. It could be intersting to see how the Empire, and the Rebellion, broke him. That paints a fairly dark tone, which I hope Disney don’t sugar coat.

Rogue One is easily the best Star Wars movie since the OT imo.

It seems to me that between Rogue One, Rebels and Solo, Lucasfilm is trying to build a world of interconnected storylines set amongst individual cells in the early days of the Rebellion. Although I'm glad to see that they're not abandoning this idea after Solo failed to connect at the box office, I wouldn't mind a central character in a TV series whose fate wasn't already known to us. (That old PT criticism about a lack of dramatic tension because we all know who survives into the OT and who doesn't.)

And if we're going to do Rogue One spin-offs, I wouldn't mind a series about Chirrut Imwe and Baze Malbus.

Still, I'll check this one out nonetheless...
