Universal Saddles Up Seabiscuit on Blu-ray
March 19, 2009

The fifth and final former HD DVD Universal catalog title announced today for a May 26 release on Blu-ray Disc is none other than the horse racing $120 box office hit Seabiscuit.

Seabiscuit will ride onto Blu-ray in its original 2.35:1 1080p aspect ratio with 1080p resolution and 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio.

Universal is hoping to target Playstation 3 owners with Seabiscuit with the inclusion of a PS3 controller guide and other BD-Live goodies. The remaining bonus features were all previously available on HD DVD.

User Guides - My Scenes, Registration, BD-Live
Playstation 3 Controller
BD Live
Bringing the Legend to Life: The Making of Seabiscuit
Anatomy of a Movie Moment
Seabiscuit: Racing Through History
Photo Finish: Jeff Bridges' On the Set Photographs
Seabiscuit vs. War Admiral, The 1938 Match Race
Winners' Circle: The Heroes Behind the Legend
The True Story of Seabiscuit
HBO First Look
Feature Commentary with Director Gary Ross and Filmmaker Steven Soderbergh
With an SRP of $29.98, Seabiscuit will set you back roughly $21 when it goes up for pre-order at Amazon.com. You can check out the high-res cover art by clicking through the disc details below.

SEABISCUIT will be amazing on Blu ray.

A PS3 controller....guide?

"Here is the "X" button, it is marked with a blue "X""

Oh thank you Mr. Guide! Three generations of Sony gaming and I hadn't pushed that button out of fear of what it may do!

Great news! This is a movie that I've always wanted on BD and at a $21 pre-order price, not a bad deal either!

LOL he probably should've put a comma between controller and guide. If the price isn't too bad, I may consider this since I don't want to spend too much on a second controller.

Seabiscuit is the perfect film to watch right now as some people are facing tough economic times. On top of that, it's a wonderful movie that I cannot wait to add to my Blu-ray library.

No, more like "Guide for the Gamer-Boiz and cheapskates who STILL haven't gone out and bought that $24 Movie Remote yet for their PS3's, and have to figure out how to work all of Universal's interactive color-button extras without one, using the triangle and square buttons."

(But then, if they were trying to reach the PS3 kids who had just found about movies on the machine by now, you sure as heck wouldn't reach them with "Seabiscuit"... )

There was a good PBS "American Experience" documentary around the same time, and the period David McCullough narration in the movie seems to say, "Okay, so we admit it, the PBS version was better, but even that makes a pretty darn good movie when you tell it right."

I'm surprised not to see more chatter for this movie. I have to say I enjoy it and I do have the HD DVD and the quality is very good. When the price is right, I'll probably get this one for the bump in audio.

How about you? No love for "The Biscuit"?

Shipping today from Netflix. I'll be really surprised if the PQ and AQ aren't outstanding.

I watched this on regular DVD with a gf. I have to re-watch because I didn't pay too much attention to the movie that time. But I'll have to watch it on DVD and then decide if I want Blu Ray version.
