Warner Bros Shaft (2019)

Quote:
A Shaft Reboot is on the Way!

Who’s the black private dick that’s a sex machine to all the chicks and who is also getting a big screen reboot? If you said Shaft, you’re damn right! TheWrap is reporting that New Line Cinema has acquired the rights to the Shaft franchise and is, alongside Davis Entertainment’s John Davis, developing a reboot.

Originally a 1970 novel by Ernest Tidyman, Shaft was famously made into a feature film, directed by Gordon Parks, in 1971. Richard Roundtree played the title role, Detective John Shaft, in the original film, immediately reprising the role for two sequels: Shaft’s Big Score in 1972 and Shaft in Africa in 1973. Later in ’73, Roundtree played Shaft once again for a short lived CBS television series.

Although the small screen “Shaft” ran for only seven episodes, Roundtree returned more than two decades later for a cameo in John Singleton’s Shaft reboot. Although Samuel L. Jackson played the lead in the 2000 release, the film actually maintained a singular continuity with the rest of the franchise, revealing that Jackson’s Detective John Shaft was actually the nephew of Roundtree’s.

Although a new actor is expected to take the lead in the new Shaft, there’s no telling yet whether the film will move forward as a full reboot or whether an attempt will be made to once again spin the latest franchise entry as a loose sequel.

Hopefully the rumors pan out and DJ Qualls will be announced as the lead. That would be edgy.

Shaft imo was a product of it's time[s] no need to remake it AGAIN

I'd rather see Blacula or Blackenstien remade/rebooted

A time we're almost living right now. Honestly, there's no better time for a Shaft film than now...

All movies are unnecessary...There's not a single movie that has ever been made that's necessary. A re-adaptation right now isn't a bad idea in light of the climate many are living in.

You missed the point of my post - completely. I'm not saying that "all movies are unnecessary". I'm saying the remake / reboot of "Shaft" is unnecessary.

It's highly doubtful the impetus in Hollywood behind this unnecessary remake is the notion that the remake is necessary as a result of the times that we're living in.

Well that's not fair! there needs to be diversity in this franchise so I think it should be Tom Hardy.

Thing is I don't actually know whether to be sarcastic or not

Seems to be a lot of support for Michael Cera lol!

Next reboot...Kojak.

Oh no, I got your point. But the "this movie is unnecessary because it's a reboot", in my opinion, is silly. Any movie is unnecessary. You don't want to see a new Shaft? Awesome. You can watch anything else. There's plenty of new material to go watch and see, but not a single movie ever is a necessity, so the idea that one is less necessary than another because it's a reboot is inherently just petty to me. Hell, it could turn out to be good, we don't know. We'll have to just wait and see what happens. The character is great, and with the proper actor could actually be a lot of fun. Like a lot of people said, Idris Elba in the role could be excellent. We can only hope the movie is actually good. If not, we have the original.

This is pretzel logic at its finest. I'm not going to get into some ridiculous debate with. Sorry.

I respect that you don't want to see the movie, as I said. I just think that calling any movie unnecessary is silly, which is my opinion on the matter, because I think every film is inherently unnecessary.

Again, feel free to not see the movie and not be excited about it. That's absolutely your prerogative. Nothing wrong with that. Not trying to come off as a jerk, sorry if I did.

Incorrect. The new Avengers and Star Wars films are completely necessary! Your point is invalid.
