If this needs to get moved into another thread, I'm ok with that. I wasn't sure where to post this.
For Christmas, I want to upgrade to a 4K TV and get a UHD player. I'm not looking to break the bank, but I do want quality. I'm open to options, I know my budget isn't huge, it's around $500. Is that enough for anything? I know 4K TVs are getting more affordable, so I did want to ask. |

For your budget I would recommend the TCL 5-series. For $500 you can get a 55-inch. There might be similar options from Hisense or Vizio but I'm not really familiar with those brands. Unfortunately if your budget is $500 for both the TV and the player that's going to be tough. For the player I would recommend the UBP-X700. Walmart is selling it for $150. You do have to manually switch between Dolby Vision and HDR10 but for the price point it's been a decent player for me.

Too many people buy poor 4K TVs and believe that 4K HDR doesn't add much, when it's just that many of the lower end TVs can't display it very well.
I definitely suggest checking out Rtings.com's page on the best budget TVs, since you can do it on a budget, you just have to make the right choice. |

For a quality 4K TV on a budget anything QLED is probably the way to go. It's the closest to OLED and less expensive. Buy a name brand set LG, Samsung, Sony. TCL. Hisense is ok. Vizio is average some of their sets are ok. Stay away from Insignia (I would never recommend anyone an Insignia product) and some knock off cheap no name Walmart brands. The TCL 5-series the user a few posts above me recommended would be a good choice it's a QLED. Last edited by danny24; 10-31-2021 at 04:04 PM. |

The problem with TV tech is that they're putting all the good stuff in the larger screens, so unless it's an OLED I wouldn't jump at anything under 55'' and for a decent display you're looking at Black Friday and pushing your budget a bit further (and unfortunately leaving a player out for a few months). |

I think it goes even further than that, I said a few years back that when we hit breakthroughs with peak brightness and color volumes it won't be with UHD/4K sets it will be with 8K ones, and that's something we're starting to see now.

rtings.com rated the Hisense U6G as the best budget UHD TV in 2021. The smallest and least expensive is the 50" version, which is on sale for $430 at present. However, I have seen some consumer reviews that indicate Hisense has less stringent quality control than some other brands.
