I have a 77" LG C series OLED and love it, but want to size up. I asked Chris at Cleveland Plasma about the 97G2 and he said he thinks the price is outrageous but the Samsung gets about 90% of the performance for less than half the price. Any thoughts? Would I be disappointed with the Samsung after five years of LG OLED? The price point of the Samsung is definitely attractive.

Hmm already at 77 eh. 83" oled is probably the safest upgrade path. Regarding Samsung, well, I have a Samsung Q80R in my living room for cable TV and sports and have no regrets. Tizen is a little annoying but if you just buy a separate streaming box like the apple TV 4k or something similar you can just ignore it.

The QN90 is going to be brighter, hitting a 2500 peak nit point whereas the OLED will be 1200 peak. That makes a huge difference for gaming and streaming. The OLED can get image retention/burn-in - you'll be okay if you just watch a good variety of source material. The Sammy will kick itself into computer mode if you hardwire via HDMI from a desktop or laptop. The 2022 interface is very different from the previous years though.
Both Sony and Samsung require you to set up 'accounts' - email and password to open all ap's. Sammy now uses a solar remote and they still make their own panels. |

@win200, I appreciate your concern about coming from a premium OLED emissive display to a full array locally dimmed LCD TV. Once you've been spoiled by the detail and contrast of an OLED it's is difficult for an enthusiasts to switch to a transmissive display technology. With all that said I do like Samsung's 98" QN90A and Sony's XR100X92 TVs, but they do not deliver the premium and accurate image performance of any OLED TV.
@teddyballgame, thanks for posting FOMO's YouTube interview with me and our calibrator D-Nice where we compare Samsung's 98" QN90A to Sony's 100" X92 4K HDR TVs! Although the screen size is not as large it's worth considering LG's or Sony's new 83" 2022 OLED TVs for your next TV upgrade. We'l have LG's very first 97" G2 Gallery Series OLED TV in our showroom late August. Last edited by Robert Zohn; 07-28-2022 at 07:44 PM. |
