Default Maybe I Should Stop Driving for a Time

Well I turned 42 this past summer and have been driving for a little over 26 years. In those 26 years I had never been in an accident. Well today I had my second in less than two weeks. Thankfully no one has been hurt and thankfully both were not my fault but man . . .

Two weeks ago a lady pulled out in front of me and I slammed right into her. About $6,500 worth of damage to my car. Won't get my car back until sometime next week, just about paid off so I hope car is fine when I get it back as I still want to keep it for a few years.

Today at work, driving out to one of the forests I manage, had a deer bolt out and try to jump over my truck. Well, he did not make it and proceeded to land on my windshield. Actually think the deer is going to be okay as I was able slow down enough - my windshield, fender and side mirror is another story.

I live in hick land so I always see deer on the sides of the road on my drive back from work at night.

Old people driving are the worst. Some of them here don't even use blinkers when they turn.

That sucks man

Jacksonville traffic is no joke. I hate it and it gets bad every single year. I can type several pages why I hate driving in this city. Anyway, where did you hit the deer? I usually see deer on Lem Turner Rd, but haven't seen any for a while because the city is tearing down some trees. I did ran over a rabbit that came towards me. Good thing the rabbit was so light it didn't do any damage to my car.

Sorry to hear that. My wife and I have had some near misses lately too. The traffic is not too bad, but the constant road construction on and off the freeways causes a lot of issues.

Hit the deer in Middleburg - got lucky as I was going about 40 - 45 when I first saw the deer, probably was down under 20 after I braked when it jumped on the windshield. I had my window down and if i was 2-3 feet further ahead he might of jumped right into my open window which would of been bad. Do not want to think about the impact of that deer (especially a hoof) straight on me while driving down the road. Only got a little bit of glass in my arm from the side mirror.

Here in Pennsylvania the deer have really started moving around at night. When I drive to work, the roads are really starting to become littered with bodies. It's really sad to see a deer killed on the road. At least when hunters get them, the meat is going to good use. This time of year, I am on high alert looking out for deer. I drive a Kia Rio, a deer would DECIMATE my car.

I have to agree with you on that - think this deer will be okay from the way he looked after the accident, muzzleloading season starts next week and than general gun soon after so his days may be numbered. My work is forestry / wildland firefighting so I'm in the woods all the time yet this is the first time I've hit a deer.

Just right it off as bad luck.....sometimes life just throws you lemons or in your case deer. You'll probably be super cautious now anyways since you've had 2 accidents in such short a time.....and you'll be accident free from here on out.

There I spoke some positive energy in your life and I hope things turn out better for you from here on out. Keep on driving.....there's nothing like a man and his machine.....it's in our blood i believe.

Thanks for the positive energy - no worries on the driving, just thought it was a little strange to go so long without an accident and than have two in that short of span.

You were driving for 26 years before you had an accident, you were lucky and unfortunately that luck has run out.
A lady pulled out in front of you and a deer tried to make a dash across the road in front of you right?
Neither your fault, get over it and move on.

I am not driving much anymore since working from home permanently. The scariest experience with deer was when I was driving out of Hulett WY, near Devil's Tower and into South Dakota. It was very early morning and the sun was just coming up and there were literally hundreds of deer in the fields surrounding the road. Some of them had wandered out into the road to cross and there were semi-trailer trucks driving full speed down the road like they didn't care the deer were around. Maybe the deer knew better, but from my experience, I have seen them just run out into traffic.

Coming home at night from a wedding in New Jersey, driving on the highway, a deer jumped in front of my 1987 Olds Cutlass totalling the car. All I saw was a flash of brown then all the idiot lights lite up and I could no longer see through the windshield because my hood was in the way.

Managed to limp to the side of the road and now in the middle of nowhere - all of a sudden, a flat bed pulls up behind me. "You Okay?" "Yep." "I'll call the State Police." About 15 minutes later, a Cruiser appears with a male/female partnered State Police officers. The male tells the female to find the deer, just in case it'a lying in the middle of the highway.

The male starts an accident report and all of a sudden we hear: BAM . . . BAM . . . BAM, BAM . . . BAM. The male reaches for his gun and sweeps me into the Cruiser. His partner shows up. "WTF!" It was on the side of the road. I had taken it's hind quarter off but it was trying to crawl onto the highway. "The damn thing wouldn't die! 4 shots from my 357 Mag and it's still crawling so I put the muzzle against it's head and that did it."
