Saw this today and liked it enough. The movie plays completely straight without any satire. Although there were times where I found myself laughing a bit at the awkwardness on display. The filmmaking and the actors are good. They fully commit to their characters without falling into any caricatures. I had to look away during one of the therapy scenes because I could tell what was coming. There's definitely some abuse in this movie, but the young people who are seeking therapy (or forced into therapy by parents) exhibit extreme forms of behavior as well. Worth seeing, but I couldn't tell by the end what the writer/director's intent was. What is the theme? What is the point?

Might check this out since it drops on VOD this week. Critics scores aren't good, but audience score is over 80%. Looks kinda freaky and cool.

It seemed interesting. I would have gone to see it if it opened here. I couldn't have cared less about Lily Rose Depp before seeing Silent Night (which actually did open here). I found her very likeable in that and I'm excited to see her in another movie.

I am drawn to movies with unconventional premises such as this. As crazy as this was written I was all in for spending time with this facility's patients, but ultimately it was a bit of a slog. There wasn't much narrative momentum.
Some of adornments the patients were allowed to wear reminded me of those from Furry conventions. Along those lines I wonder if many Furries know of this film's existence. I personally don't know of any Furries who "become" their animal in the way portrayed in this film. |
