Oops, sorry. Got these numbers from annual/quarterly reports and such. No VGChartz were harmed to pull these numbers. They are Sony and MS's own numbers. Shipped I assume.

Nice

It wont be long before PS3 outsells the x360 outright. 2008 and 2009 have the PS3's biggest games, while the 360 already blew its load with Halo3.

Everything is in the PS3s favor (biggest games comming this year and next, bluray having won, developers choosing the ps3 as the lead platform, price no longer an advantage for the other consoles, ps2 user base poised to upgrade)

I agree. However, I expect M$ will probably come out with a new machine soon. I only wonder what format they're going to choose for the software!

By then, there will only be ONE viable choice!

and the question will be...would it be to Sony's advantage to let them have BD compatibility or keep it for themselves in hopes to sell more PS consoles.

I would not bet on M$ releasing a new console for quite some time. The 360 has enough issues with hardware and why would they release an updated xbox with a BD drive? All it would do is play movies and feature none of the benefits of Blu-ray disc based gaming, they can never move over to blu-ray for games as it would screw over all the provious owners. Seems that IF they ever support Blu-ray it makes more sense to release a seperate drive which will likely sell as well as the HD-DUD drive did. The PS3 advantage is that it is a Blu-ray drive so the consumer does not have to worry about buying extras/half assed add on devices. I would hope you don't mean an entirely new console from M$ because I can guarantee you that the 360 will be around for another 3 years at least (they need the time to engineer the bugs into the next one, that stuff takes time and very intelligent people )

Both M$ and Sony have started R&D into their next consoles, but you won't hear anything about it for ~5 years.

Believe it or not, the Sony games division actually turned a profit.
Linkage: http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/01/31/...-makes-profit/

Shhh. Don't tell Jet Cero or whatever his name is. He will start another 5 page flaming thread to defend the 360's honor.

I'm not following you. PS2 games came on DVD. How would this be different? My PS3 can play my old games.

Actually, I did mean a new console altogether. I'm not sure how soon that'll be but whenever it is, it'll have to be Blu.

Perhaps they will eliminate optical media altogether and force you to buy their 500 GB proprietary hard drive and subscribe to XBox Live to download everything. Get it? Microsoft...download service...*insert laughter*

Seriously though, it wouldn't at all surprise me if they did that. It will be interesting to see what happens in the next next gen.

I doubt the next gen, which won't be for another 5-7 years, will have anything to do with Blu-Ray.

Sony, nor the BDA as a whole, are able to 'punish' electronics producers in such a fashion. They still have to go through the same measures and procedure everyone else did, but they cannot be barred in a retributive manner.

Hah, lame Xbox fanboy rebuttal: but, but, but, the PS2's didn't start dying for about 2 years. Just you wait

The yearly number in the US was 1.8:1 in favor of Xbox 360.

I imagine that this will be at the very least closer in the coming year.
