Default USA's "Shooter" (Season 3)

Quote:
Mark Wahlberg to Produce ‘Shooter’ TV Show for TNT

Normally, movies that don’t make $100 million worldwide don’t get sequels. And they definitely don’t get TV shows. But Mark Wahlberg isn’t your typical actor/producer. He’s now teamed up with Paramount TV to bring his 2007 film, Shooter, to TNT as a regular series.

The film, which itself was based on the novel Point of Impact by Stephen Hunter, follows a decorated but retired military sniper who takes one last job. However, he’s framed for murder on the job and goes on the run. Read more about the Shooter TV show below.

Deadline broke the news of the Shooter TV show. John Hlavin (Underworld: Awakening, The Shield) is going to be the show runner and writer. He’ll be joined by Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson.

Adapting Shooter into a TV show certainly makes sense. The plot is like a more action packed version of The Fugitive and the whole “on the run” aspect lends itself well to serialized TV. Unlike a movie though, a TV show has to be more open ended and this story can only spin its wheels for so long. If TNT turns it into a hit, how long will it be until the main character clears his name? I guess that would be a great problem for the showrunners to have and not something to worry about just yet.

Antoine Fuqua directed the original film, which grossed $47 million in the US and $95 million total internationally. That’s not a huge number but the show’s premise is pretty universal. Plus, TNT has been very successful with their original programming and aren’t a network to cut the chord super quickly, like some of the bigger networks. Shooter has a real shot at being a hit, get it?

What do you think about the Shooter TV show? Will it be a hit? Do you think it has a short shelf life?

Why would you just adapt Shooter? I think making each season based on a different book would be a better idea.

A well made film that I wish was more successful. I always wanted to see a sequel, but I guess a TV series will do.

Thought the film was passable at best, to be honest. Seems like a random film to adapt into a telly show.

It's a series of books. That's why I think they would be better off adapting the character (e.g. Longmire) than just one story that can't go on forever.

USA Network has picked up to series drama pilot Shooter, from Paramount TV and Universal Cable Prods.

The project, based on Stephen Hunter’s novel Point of Impact and the 2007 Paramount film starring Mark Wahlberg, is written by John Hlavin and executive produced by Wahlberg.

Shooter stars Ryan Phillippe as Bob Lee Swagger — the role played by Wahlberg in the movie — an expert marksman living in exile who is coaxed back into action after learning of a plot to kill the president. Omar Epps plays Isaac Johnson, an ex-Marine and Swagger’s former commanding officer . Now a Secret Service Agent, he solicits Swagger’s expertise for a clandestine operation that has disastrous results.

Wahlberg and Hlavin executive produce with Stephen Levinson and Lorenzo di Bonaventura. Phillippe serves as producer. Simon Cellan Jones directed the pilot.

“Shooter is an uncompromising exploration of the definition and evolution of a hero,” said Jackie de Crinis, USA’s EVP Original Programming. “The conspiracy and drama that unfolded throughout the first hour had us completely immersed, and we look forward to more.”

The project was originally set up at TNT in 2014 with Hlavin, Wahlberg and Paramount TV. Paramount negotiated an early release of the script last spring and took it to USA whose executives jumped on it, giving it a pilot commitment with a big penalty attached if it didn’t go to pilot. The script underwent further development before the network proceeded with attaching talent and greenlighting a pilot.

“USA is the perfect home for Shooter,” said Amy Powell, President, Paramount Television. “Stephen Hunter’s Bob Lee Swagger is a heroic, iconic character and there is so much more of his story to explore in series.”

Shooter is the second USA pilot from the 2015-2016 slate to get a series order, joining supernatural thriller Falling Water. Remaining in contention are Brooklyn Animal Control and Poor Richard’s Almanack.

I'm interested as well. Omar Epps is a great actor, loved him in House.

This fits the protocol for a TNT show, no doubt.

Cynthia Addai-Robinson (Arrow) has been cast as the female lead opposite Ryan Phillippe in Shooter, USA Network’s upcoming drama series from Paramount TV and Universal Cable Prods. She replaces Emily Rios, who played the part in the pilot.

The thriller, based on Stephen Hunter’s novel Point Of Impact and the 2007 Paramount film starring Mark Wahlberg, is written by John Hlavin and executive produced by Wahlberg. It stars Phillippe as Bob Lee Swagger — the role played by Wahlberg in the movie — an expert marksman living in exile who is coaxed back into action after learning of a plot to kill the president.

Addai-Robinson will play FBI agent Nadine Memphis. Nadine has a strong intuition and dogged determination which has made her a rising star in the Bureau, but her headstrong personality has also landed her in trouble in the past. As the arresting officer of a would-be-assassin, she may have set her career back on the fast track, but her gut tells her there’s more to this case. Not realizing the depth of the conspiracy, she unwittingly puts both her investigation and her life in jeopardy.

Omar Epps co-stars as Isaac Johnson, an ex-Marine and former commander officer, and Shantel VanSanten as Julie Swagger, the wife and best friend of Bob Lee.

Wahlberg and Hlavin executive produce with Stephen Levinson and Lorenzo di Bonaventura. Phillippe serves as producer. Simon Cellan Jones directed the pilot.

Addai-Robinson has recurred as Amanda Waller on Arrow. She also recently co-starred in the History miniseries Texas Rising and did an arc on NBC’s Chicago Med. She is repped by Liebman Entertainment and Innovative Artists.

Shooter has been delayed due to the recent mass shootings. It was originally supposed to premiere today, but the premiere was pushed back a week after the shootings in Dallas, and following the shootings in Baton Rouge the show has been pushed back to the fall.

Again thread title is still wrong. Show is on USA not TNT.

Disappointed this was postponed, but I can see why USA wanted to be safe instead of getting flack from the media and public because of the recent news.

Kinda pointless to delay this, considering how many mass shootings we have. If they're waiting for Americans to quit killing each other, the show will never air.

I never got around to watching Season 1 yet, but it is on my radar. I'm working through The Leftovers season 2 and season 3 right now and then a bunch of other stuff. I won't get to this before S2 starts sadly..
