Default Blu-Ray plays HD-DVD?

According to the product description of this Sony Vaio on Circuit City's website...

Quote:
Blu-Ray ROM: This drive has the ability to play Blu-Ray Disc media—a format that provides five times the capacity of standard DVDs. Blu-Ray also supports HD-DVD playback, so your movies will look incredible.
I'm pretty sure it's just a typo at this point, but I thought it was funny. I am waiting for this laptop to become available. A pretty good deal IMO.

it could be a typo, but remember there is a difference between hd-dvd and hd dvd. hd-dvd is simply a disc that supports hd, hd dvd is a specific format of hd disc. its very confusing.

Maybe Toshiba has paid Sony to become HD-DVD exclusive.

These types of computer drives are available. Check the following links. I am not suggesting that Sony would install such a drive in their laptops.

That one was good.

My freind says that his PS3 can play the mission impossible 3 hddvd disk on his playstation. I told him it had to be a hddvd dvd combo disk and he was playingthe DVD side. He keeps saying to come over so he can show me. I really think it is BS.

technically speaking no it won't be playing that inferior hd media, but instead maybe they were tell people that their computer could play hd content from a standard dvd when encoded with files such as wm9
