Did anyone buy Rent on BD? My wife would like have one for christmas and wondered if it was released on 11th or postponed?

I never saw it, as I have little interest in a musical of its type (I gave Hairspray a shot at least) - but I heard its quite good.

I saw this live in 1996 and it was a powerful stage piece. It is hard for me to distance myself from that experience. I was initially disapointed in the movie because I always felt like it was unfilmable. I did buy the blu-ray and was pleased at what a great transfer....and time has allowed me to forgive it's flaws. In my opinion the best part of the movie is that they used most of the original cast...who were just great. Not the best theatre musical to film but it does have it's moments.

I didn't give this movie a chance, Netflixed it and the second I heard singing I turned it off. Just not my thing.

Yeah, there is usually singing in musicals!!That's like saying, "I rented House of 1000 Corpses, but the minute I saw blood, I turned it off. Just not my thing."

I Netflixed it and liked it a lot. I'll probably purchase it sometime in the near future. The PCM track is very nice.

I checked out the original Broadway soundtrack for comparison between the two characters that were not in the original production, and I have to say I liked Rosario Dawson a lot more than Daphne-Rubin Vega. My favorite part is between Mimi and Roger (Another Day) in his apartment, and I didn't get the same feeling from that scene with Vega.

I was forced to watch this. Wasn't that impressed, but I'm not a big fan of new age musicals about AIDS and Homosexuals. However Phantom of the Opera works for me.

Spurred to finally see this due to a renewed interest in Larson thanks to Andrew Garfield's tremendous performance in tick, tick . . ..

Wondering about anyone else with playback issues especially given how many site members (992) own this disc. I'm on my second Netflix BD to not even be recognized by my old Panasonic DMP-BDT220. First disc crapped out at or about the I think layer change (47:00) on two players (OPPO 203 and Sony X800M2). Second froze a few minutes later on the Sony. ~~About to try the second disc in the OPPO.~~ Washed both discs.

Amazon Prime Video presentation is in the wrong (1.78) aspect ratio.

Disc appears to be OOP: Currently starts at $43 on Amazon Marketplace. Not available on either the Busted Buy or Target Websites.

Addendum: Second rental disc jammed up at about the same place on the OPPO also. Am gonna try the Apple TV / iTunes rental . . .

So are Vudu and Movies Anywhere. Don’t know why Sony never updated it.

Ironically, if you have Xfinity/Comcast and add link it to MA, it plays in the correct ratio using Xfinity, but it looks like an SD upscale.

Interesting to note from Jeffrey Schwarz' outstanding (as usual) documentary that Joe Roth's daughter is/was a "Renthead" and that played a role in his making the movie. Per the copyright, Revolution owns the film not Sony. Very likely why this disc is OOP.
