Question For a casual Star Wars fan and casual 4k collector, would the OG trilogy be worth it?

I still have the original box set from I believe it was 2011-ish and the first movie really doesn't hold up (the transfer) especially, at least too me. It has a lot of issues I noticed day one but since I'm not highly particular I must say the 4k's they released a few years back have my interest, I remember reading Phantom Menace was horrible? But the Original Trilogy remained "ok"? But I honestly never saw them in stores at the time when I was wanting them - now their fairly cheap used on eBay so I"d be willing to give them a go.

What do you think buy or don't buy?

I'd also be interested in your guys thoughts: Why isn't Disney milking Star Wars physically anymore? They released one (that I know of) box set on Blu ray/4k back in 2019-20 and no standard or even more - premium variant one for hardcore fans one for none-hardcore fans. I'd love a 80 dollar set for cheap long as the packaging was decent.

You might enjoy a start with these (just a suggestion as I have all of them in 4K! )… available on Amazon.com!

If you have the money you can’t go wrong with this set… available on Amazon.com, although much higher in price then when they 1st came out!!

The Original Trilogy was DNR'd for the 4Ks.
Thta is a shame.

They still look much better than the Blu-rays.
Additionally they have much more correct contrast and colors.

I'd like to buy them individually but thanks! I need to know what people think of the transfers though before I drop the money on a company I'm not fond of.

I’m a casual fan. Bought the OT UHDs, watched them once, and sold them. I’d rather not watch them again. At this point I’d buy a release of the non-special editions but I’m not a fan of the changes and the UHD releases weren’t good enough to make them worth watching just for the audio/visual quality alone.

Sadly the best quality versions of the OG Star Wars films are usually fanmade preservation projects that aren't easy to come by for Mr. Casual-Movie-Watcher.

I understand people even myself have opinions on the changes made but lets keep it on image quality or even audio quality as the topic. Or else its a pissing contest lol.

So maybe read a handful of different reviews online instead of starting a new topic that isn't needed and then telling everyone to stay on it?

Or maybe be nice - play nice however you wish to word and and not be crude and rude about things. I was the OP person so I am at least allowed to ASK to stay on topic, where that goes any body knows. So don't take offense at things so darn easy.

To those telling me this topic isn't needed:

A. The post I'm replying to is evidence that it does, because people bash the movie, rather then the product (9/10) in most forums. Same with reviews on say Amazon. "Oh I want the OG not Disney crap" yadadada.

B. I'm a person just like the original poster in 2020 who made the post of the box set announcement, Therefor your going to get different threads made because each *person* will have different takes on the question at hand, like me I want no fuss over the movies and what Lucas, etc did.

C. Get used to it this is a forum if you've been here like this person since 2008 you can't except glory for yourself all the time.

I think the non-anamorphic DVDs of the original trilogy (bonus discs) upscale rather well given their ultra low resolution.
