Default OLED main Pixel Refresher theories..

So I came across a YouTuber (Not a well known or highly subscribed) called “Joe Woody”

I watched a few of his videos. He has 3 LG OLEDs.

B8 (10,000 hours) or E8, CX (4,500 hours) C1.

He is very honest about his use case with using the main Pixel Refresher on his LGs. Basically without me posting a video of his, he claims he uses the main one 2-3 times per week.

He has been doing this on all his OLEDs & he claims he doesn’t see any picture degradation on any of them.

Am curious what you guys think about the main Pixel Refresher being used like it’s a daily feature?

You should NEVER have to use the Pixel Refresher 2-3 times per week. The Pixel Refresher should only be used in 2 instances. The first 1 is if you have a major issue with your TV and you want to try to “reset” the pixels. The 2nd instance (and most common) is after every 2,000 hours of use, the TV will ask you (make you) to use the Pixel Refesher so it can help maintain the longevity of the pixels. But that’s it.

Using the Pixel Refresher 2-3 times a week will eventually wear the TV’s pixels down and degrade the picture. It’s overkill! This is why you only use it sparingly.

Yeah that's interesting anecdote for sure. I don't think I want to try it myself and find out!

Most oleds run a standard housekeeping type refresh after every 4 or 5 hours of usage. Then a major refresh after 2000 hours. If you don't have any uniformity or retention issues I'd suggest going easy on the panel and avoiding pixel refresh function until necessary.

I've had my Sony OLED since 2019 - content is mixed among TV Series + movies all the way from 2.55:1 to 1.33:1 aspect ratios and never anything with static logos etc.

But if i was watching a 2.39:1 or 1.33:1 AR movie with extended running times i will usually run the AppleTV 4k aerial photography screen saver for about 10-15mins to clear the faint lines that have formed on the screen and all is fine the next day.

Never used the pixel refresh function and was never asked to - perhaps it might be due soon.
