Great! To celebrate this announcement, I just picked up Season 1 for $42 from Amazon. I've been meaning to pick it up for a while but was confused about the show's prospects for future seasons as the first season was released what seems like a looong time ago without a followup. I wonder what took so long.

In any case I would be satisfied with whatever gets released on bluray even if season 2 is the end. |

Hmm, I wasn't aware of any of this. I thought the popularity of this series would guarantee that CBS would followup with the rest of the seasons. Did Season 1 not make any money? So odd. |

1) Perhaps the target audience for this is older people who don't care about Blu-Ray and don't want to spend that much on a season of TV. 2) People are waiting for a complete series set. |

Sales for S1 weren't great, and those for Andy Griffith Show apparently even less so. (Selling $100 BD season sets up against $10 DVD sets is a challenge, particularly with an older show like this.) If sales for S2 don't hold up, I wouldn't bank on seeing any more Lucy on BD. I doubt Andy Griffith S2 has much hope, at this stage, either.

Sales of S1 weren't great because the price was abnormally large for a typical TV on Blu-ray set... let alone a catalog title. If they just dropped the list price $20 and sold these for $30 or so they would sell really well.
I hope this is not the last season to come out. I want the whole series in HD. |

It's funny how Little House on the Prairie is now set to release season 6 and Lionsgate has priced each season at a REASONABLE $20 for great looking discs...and Lucy and Griffith are struggling even at a reduced price of $40 each one year later.
One has to think that they only reason we are even getting Blu-Rays of these classic shows, is that it is "found revenue" after the remastering process, future-proofing their content. They realize that no one 20 years from now is going to want to watch 480i content, so they are doing everything in their power to protect their back catalogs from future ambivalence of a generation who grew up on broadcast HD as a standard. The only cost that the companies need to be re-couping is the mastering and printing costs of actually making the discs. They will be making their profit in syndication and streaming deals for years to come. Last edited by Glamdring7920; 04-21-2015 at 06:40 PM. |

Looks like the price point is still the same as season 1.
http://www.amazon.com/Love-Lucy-Ultimate-Season-Two/dp/B00WGEAK4O/ref=sr_1_2?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1429634336&sr=1-2&keywords=i+love+lucy+ultimate+season+2 I will get it, as season 1 looks wonderful, but man, CBS isn't learning anything, or they just don't care. My mom asked me why she should get the Blu-ray when she can grab the DVD sets for $10 at Target. $60 for the six seasons or $42 for one? Sadly, it's pretty much a no-brainer for those who aren't as obsessed about picture quality. |

I love I Love Lucy, and I'm not one of those guys that waits for all releases to hit bargain bin pricing before buying, but the cost on these releases are just too high for me to purchase right now. Apparently, it appears I'm not the only one... |

I Love Lucy hit saturation point years and years ago. It's been released in complete sets several times now. The complete DVD set was discounted very low last Christmas and it looks very good. Plenty of extras on the DVDs too. If they want people to buy it again, they are going to have to provide some sort of incentive. Simply putting it out on blu-ray isn't enough. That made a HUGE difference for Star Trek and Twilight Zone, but it doesn't make as much of a difference for Dick Van Dyke Show and I Love Lucy. But look how successful Dick Van Dyke is with its strategy of releasing a complete set at a discounted price.

That's ridiculous. I want to support and own all of it in HD but CBS has the oddest release patterns for TV series. |

I love the show but I can say I won't be buying. I don't like buying individual seasons and would only consider them if they were sold at a decent price.

Only own season 1 & 3 on DVD and bought season 1 blu-ray last year. Glad Season 2 is releasing on blu-ray. Love the Season 1 set which I got for $25 after gift cards applied. I have to agree with everyone about the expensive price. I think $40-$50 should be the price for release week if CBS wants to charge high. In my mind it should be around $30-$35 then they can charge whatever ridiculous price they want after release week. I doubt sales are going to improve but I'll rather have two seasons on blu-ray (and supported) than none at all.

Can't imagine Season 1 having sold very well. But they are probably creating, or already have, HD remasters for syndication, and a Blu-Ray sales are just icing on the cake. It seems this is the only way these older shows will be released on Blu-Ray.
I doubt blu-ray sales alone would justify continual releases in the current climate. That said, I'd be all over these at a $30 price point. |
