Yeah, I was hoping that this remake would get the original released on 4K UHD. It's about all remakes are good for nowadays, but I'm not even sure this is going to get it done especially given its abysmal box office performance.

I wonder if iTunes will still get this by the end of January, as anticipated. (I know, I know, wrong thread. But the timing of these releases usually go hand in hand...)

You'll have the original, eventually.

I hate these kinds of posts. Way to spoil the fun for people who enjoy this version.

So this pretty much means the original is around the corner. Nice.

That said, will also be picking up this edition. I was disappointed to see that House of Gucci would only be getting a standard BD release, so I'm glad WSS is hitting UHD.

I hope the 4K Blu-ray release of Steven Spielberg's WEST SIDE STORY has both reference video and audio qualities.

Had to miss this one in theaters due to Covid/Omicron. Really excited to see this, glad it is getting a 4K release.

Yeah, hopefully he has more sway over this disc’s specifications since it is a Disney release.

Day 1 release for me. Loved it

The 1961 film and Spielberg's film are from different studios. Since MGM didn't tie a UHD release of the 1961 film in with Foxney's theatrical release of the new film, I don't think the UHD release of it will have any impact on an eventual UHD of the 1961 film, unfortunately.

this new version was actually great though, stands up there with the original (which we do also need on UHD!!!!!!)

unfortunately it came out like a couple weeks after Omicron reared up, not a good thing for box office. A real shame to be dealyed a year only for that to happen all of a sudden. Still better than last December though when it really would've done zero. I did manage to squeak in a theatrical viewing finding a large nearly empty daytime show at one theater a ways away this time, but the darn new strain certain trashed hte box office for this a ton.

yeah yeah Spider man did more but that is like the one sort of movie that any HS or college kid seems to go to anymore, sadly, and it brought out way more of the pandemic?? crowd type

I had thought they'd still latch onto it for sales hype, but sadly, shockingly seems they did not. They even have a 4k DCP already done years ago too.

As the studio that owns WSS ‘61 has declined to release anything on UHD via their own distribution channels except for a bundle of four Bonds (never gonna get tired of pointing that out) then it would’ve been more shocking to me if they HAD released it on UHD. Never say never, maybe 2022 is the year of MGM giving a flying fook and not licensing out almost everything to almost anybody, but that even the usual “industry sources” have been very quiet about WSS’ prospects isn’t a great sign. Fingers crossed an indie can get something done about it.

See above. The studio in question needs to give a shit first.

That's the smart move, but it doesn't seem like MGM is interested.
