SHE IS WATCHED. SHE IS WORSHIPPED. AND SHE MUST REMAIN A MYSTERY.

In the early eighties British enfant terrible Ken Russell travelled to America and placed his unorthodox imprint on a pair of US movies. The first was the Altered States, so out-there its screenwriter disowned it. The second was the equally crazy Crimes of Passion, starring Kathleen Turner (Body Heat, Serial Mom) at the height of her powers.

Fashion designer Joanna Crane (Turner) leads a double life. By night she is China Blue, a prostitute who’s attracted the unwanted attention of two men. One is a sexually frustrated private detective hired by her employees. The other is psychopathic priest (played by Norman Bates himself, Anthony Perkins) in possession of a murderous sex toy.

With its outré screenplay by Barry Sandler and over the top score by Rick Wakeman, Crimes of Passion may just be the most outrageous Ken Russell film ever made – and that’s quite some feat!

Not familiar with this movie, but I really like the two Ken Russell films I've seen and Kathleen Turner in smolder mode is always great. Will definitely get this.

Haha, had to look at her IMDB list to figure out what you were trying to say there. Gotta love the word filters here, especially when they allow a poster to use the handle "wormraper"

This is a strange and interesting film. The synth music is weird and haunting and still pops in my head now and then. I also love the classic line when she's pretending to be a stewardess "While we may run out of Pan Am coffee, we still have plenty of TWA tea."

Can't say I'm familiar with this, but it sounds like something I would like.

Although I'm a bit hesitant since I've never been a huge Kathleen Turner fan, something about that husky masculine voice of hers was always off-putting to me.

I've requested this title over at Kino's thread, a week or two ago, and Mr. Lime told me it's with another label. I'm glad it's with Arrow.

It's a bizarre, sleazy thriller/drama, and if you're a fan of K. Turner, you gotta see this. Overall, it's a decent movie, bolstered by good performances of Perkins and Turner (
[Show spoiler]she's much better in the role of prostitute, though
).

This is such a bizarre movie.

I remember seeing this on cable and I was like . It came out the same year as Romancing the Stone and, being a teenage boy at the time, I was infatuated with Kathleen Turner.

The bit that has always stuck with me is
[Show spoiler]after she sodomizes the cop with his nightstick, she asks him if he wants to take a shower and that she has Ivory soap which is 99 44/100% pure. He then spits on her and leaves .

Ok, so I just read more about this, and it sounds RIGHT up my alley of sleazy 80's movies I love (a la some of Brian De Palma's films).

Indeed! It's definitely reminiscent of De Palma's 80's thrillers.

Never heard if it but I'd give it a shot just cause of Anthony Perkins.

Ken Russell! Anthony Perkins! Kathleen Turner!

What's not to love?

You'd better believe I'll be picking this one up!

I remember seeing this theatrically (the heavily butchered R-rated cut), and then the unrated version eventually showed up on VHS (they also released the R version on VHS for stores like Blockbuster). Then Anchor Bay's DVD was the Director's Cut which was even longer than the unrated VHS.

Theatrical R - app. 100 minutes.
Unrated - app. 107 minutes.
Director's Cut - app. 113 minutes.

I've never researched what was different between the Unrated and Director's Cut. Anyone know?

Edit:

PS, the Theresa Russell movie mentioned above (*W*H*o*r...) also had three variants on VHS. R, NC-17, and Unrated, strangely the Unrated one being the longest.

SHUT UP!!!!!

That said, only interested if it's the Unrated version. The scene with Kathleen Turner sodomizing the cop with his nightstick being the highlight.

The cover is ok, but I prefer the original. From what I remember you could easily tell if it was the Rated R version or Unrated version by the background color - blue was Rated R, red was Unrated.
