Quote:
in The Piano in order to plumb the masculine psyche in The Power of the Dog, set against the desolate plains of 1920s Montana and adapted by the filmmaker from Thomas Savage’s novel. After a sensitive widow (Kirsten Dunst) and her enigmatic, fiercely loving son (Kodi Smit-Mcphee) move in with her gentle new husband (Jesse Plemons), a tense battle of wills plays out between them and his brutish brother (Benedict Cumberbatch), whose frightening volatility conceals a secret torment, and whose capacity for tenderness, once reawakened, may offer him redemption or destruction. Campion, who won an Academy Award for her direction here, charts the repressed desire and psychic violence coursing among these characters with the mesmerizing control of a master at the height of her powers.

I would've preferred CODA. Maybe we'll get that down the road.

Different company there that they've never licensed from (Apple rather than Netflix). Criterion apparently has at least one Apple film (The Velvet Underground) in the works, so I really do hope CODA will come out down the line too. It is my favorite from last year, and I've seen it twice at home, and once in theaters.

Where's the releases for Mank and Da 5 Bloods that G**kgab had said was going to happen in 2021?

At least it can be imported, only option for Power so far has been streaming or screeners.

As much as I know by now not to trust his "news", it is disappointing that we don't have disc releases of those by now.

Getting back on topic, I look forward to this one (assuming it pans out).

Upgrades for their earlier Netflix original movie releases like ROMA and THE IRISHMAN to 4K would be nice, too. I only hope they don't sully their collection by adding the awful DON'T LOOK UP to it, though

Chris

I love Campion; I love "The Piano" tremendously.

But this one, while not terrible (It's actually pretty good), just isn't one I'd need to see again or own. To use a dreaded cliche, I thought it was a bit overrated.

To use an even more dreaded cliche, I thought it was grossly overrated. Highbrow shit, in fact. Jesse Plemons sleepwalks through the whole film. Gimme MANK!

I hope not. Come what may this decade, this will be the worst BP winner of the new 20s.

Knew this was inevitable from Criterion, but very happy to see it nonetheless.
