Default Dark Angel (aka I Come in Peace) (1990)

Dark Angel Blu-ray

Sweet!

I make no apologies for my love of the 1990 sci-fi action flick I Come in Peace AKA Dark Angel AKA Dolph Lundgen vs. a drug dealer from outer space armed with killer CDs. Now Shout Factory is again proving its greatness by giving it the Blu-ray treatment.

I Come in Peace AKA Dark Angel stars Dolph Lundgren as a Houston cop who always keeps his word. Brian Benben is a smarmy FBI agent assigned to work with Lundgren when his partner is murdered by yuppie drug dealers, who are themselves slaughtered by an extraterrestrial drug dealer (Matthias Hues) looking to harvest human endorphins – the drug of choice for those living in a galaxy far, far away. And let’s not forget that the alien’s space age superweapon is to shoots razor-sharp CDs from his wrist that are like heat-seeking missiles attracted to the human magnetic field, preferably within the vicinity of the jugular vein.

Criminally underrated action director Craig R. Baxley is behind this b-movie bonanza that blends sci-fi, action, horror, mismatched buddy cop comedy, death by throat-slashing CDs, violent yuppie drug dealers played by character actors typically cast as high school principals in 1980’s sitcoms, and Dolph Lundgren spouting off one-liners like “**** you, spaceman!”. This was Lundgren’s own Predator and a fun one at that.

The Warner Archives’ on-demand service only just made the film available on DVD under its original alternate title Dark Angel for the first time a year or so ago. Looks like we I Come in Peace fans are going to have to double dip because Shout Factory has just announced plans to bring it to Blu-ray in what we can only hope will be one of their fully loaded releases.

No artwork, disc details, or even a release date has been announced yet, but according to Blu-ray.com, we do know it will be presented in its original 1.85.1 aspect ratio and will be a two-disc set containing both the Blu-ray and a regular DVD copy.

Now if only the fine folks at Shout Factory could give the same treatment to another personal favorite of mine that has gone overlooked for far too long, The Vindicator. If you can put direct-to-video Scanners sequels on your release slate, there’s no reason why this gem can’t also be resurrected for today’s audience.

Okay, now Scream Factory is just showing off I know my dad will be happy about this, as this was one of his favorites back in the day. Glad I held off on buying the Warner Archives DVD-R!

they announced this months ago on their facebook page. I'm guessing they formally annouced it today, which is STILL cool.

I'm looking forward to this halloween set they were talking about late last week they said they are announcing soon.

Much love for that film here to.
Always loved that gun. Looked more like a flame thrower when used.

I think Dolph knows how much its loved and might have done some stuff when he did the Red Skorpion extras?

Dolph did the interview for it at the same time as for the JOSHUA TREE / ARMY OF ONE extras.

Good movie, I enjoy it (after all, it has Dolph Lundgren in it ), though it's not a film I watch often enough to warrant rebuying on Blu...I bought the MOD MGM "Dark Angel" DVD via Amazon back when it first came out, and the quality is very good (at least for me), so that's what I'll be sticking with. For fans who don't yet have it, this upcoming Shout release should be exciting!

ok, ok, Crazy Uncle Solarrdadd will be a day one tripper for this title! I sure use to really enjoy Benben in "Dream On" and to think, he's married to Madeleine Stowe too....Martin Tupper has been a busy man indeed!

Excellent news!

Not to nitpick but the DVD wasn't a Warner Archive release (if it was a Warner title, Shout would never have gotten it since Warner doesn't sublicense).

The DVD was part of the MGM Limited Edition MOD disc series, and this title must have been part of the deal Shout made with MGM.

We just need Showdown in Little Tokyo and Men of War and we can safely assume DOLPH has been vindicated.

Awesome. This movie was playing on Cinemax in 2011 and it still kicked ass. Still has one of th ebst one liners in film history.

One of Dolph's best, and I'll surely add this to my collection. This easily ranks up there with Men of War, Red Scorpion, and Joshua Tree--which I still need to pick up!

Cool MOW is on BD.

Men of War is already on Blu-ray as part of a double feature.

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Men-o...Blu-ray/49069/

The PQ is pretty good considering it is an Echo Bridge release!

Then again, EB does have some excellent PQ releases like Blindness.
