USA Martyrs (2015) Blu-ray from Anchor Bay

Cool news.

Quote:
Anchor Bay Entertainment Acquires North American Distribution Rights to Martyrs from Wild Bunch

Anchor Bay EntertainmentAnchor Bay Entertainment, a leading distributor of STARZ Original series and other TV/independent feature film content, and the home entertainment division of Starz, announced today the acquisition of all North American rights -- theatrical, Digital HD, Blu-ray/DVD and broadcast (except first pay TV window) -- to the feature film Martyrs from Wild Bunch.

The film is expected to arrive on Blu-ray later this year.

Starring Troian Bellisario ("Pretty Little Liars"), Caitlin Carmichael (300: Rise of an Empire), Kate Burton (127 Hours), Bailey Nobel ("True Blood") and Taylor John Smith (Insidious: Chapter 3) MARTYRS is directed by Kevin Goetz and Michael Goetz, and produced by Peter Safran (The Conjuring). MARTYRS was screened at the market in Cannes this year where the deal was negotiated by Carole Baraton of Wild Bunch and Josh Thomashow, who was recently put in charge of acquisitions for Anchor Bay Entertainment.

Synopsis: A woman and her childhood friend seek out revenge on those who victimized and abused them

An incredibly creepy and disturbing movie. Unpredictable from start to finish.

I imported the Canadian release and I'm content with it. It also happens to be the Uncut version.

^ This is the remake, not the original. Look at the cast.

Yeah, it's for the remake. They shouldn't be linking to the original one or posting the original poster for it.

Watched it once on DVD, probably won't ever watch it again. Incredibly disturbing; just gut-wrenching.

Edit: Whoops, I see this is for the remake (!).

Interesting. I wasn't even aware of the remake.

We need some clarification on this release.

It's for sure the remake, coming out later this year

Remake? When did that even happen? Direct to Video I assume?

That leaves me with the Canadian release then!

There's the press release without pictures of the original film. It's the remake.

Wild Bunch also own the rights to the original. I believe that's where the confusion came from.

In any rate, hopefully someone will try to cash in on the remake and unleash the remake. Consider this thread nuked.

Yep But the mix up was elsewhere, not here.

Maybe the original film will come out at the same time with the Blu-ray for the remake.

I was wondering what all the hullabaloo was about, seeing as the original film is still widely available . Even if it was a North American re-issue, it's still Anchor Bay, lol.

Hope they release the original in a decent edition, have no interest whatsoever in a remake that will surely remove what made the original so interesting. I would buy the original, I haven't bothered with an import yet.

Just order the Canadian release. It's well worth the few dollars it'll set you back. I've owned both the Region B UK disc and the Region A Canadian release. I believe this can be had for under $10 at this point. I don't know what a domestic release would add either. The film wouldn't get a new scan or remaster (not that one is needed) and I'd be surprised if there was much of anything else that could be done with the special features..... It would be interesting to see an in depth doc. On how the practical effects were done, but other that that what's already out there is more than worth owning.

I didn't know there was a Canadian release. For some reason those Canadian exclusives always fly under my radar. I didn't know about the Canadian release of "The Cell" until about a year ago either. I will have to get it, thanks!!

Never saw the remake. Wasn't a big fan of the original though. I feel like those French Extremist films were a little overrated. Possibly good for the time period they came out, and maybe I'm too desensitized from the internet, but there doesn't seem to be anything too gross/over the top with them.

Yeah Canada has been pretty good for horror fans.... Martyrs, The cell, Slither, Rec, Rec 2, Rec 3, The theatrical cuts of Zombies Halloween films, Texas Chainsaw massacre the beginning in uncut form, etc.
