Default The Animatrix (2003)

I love these shorts and we could use more anime on 4K UHD Blu-ray. The one that started it all in 1999 is coming really soon, and the sequels are apparently arriving in the fall, why not the shorts that flesh out this world? Hope Warner Bros. gets to these and gives these a good treatment. Pretty sure these were finished in full HD (usually anime gets finished at 540p or 720p and then upscaled) so it should look pretty good!

"The Second Renaissance" is the greatest animated short of all time. I hope to see it in 4K someday.

I remember before the dvd was released they randomly showed it in the theater before some unrelated movie. It was a nice treat.

Doubt these will ever be put back out, would have been on the trilogy 4k set, or again when the 4th film dropped. Even the Pitch Black animated feature on Arrow's UHD was still 1080p. Likely no money to upscale this and do HDR. I still only have the DVD.

The Riddick animation is SD really (yes, upscaled to 1080p, but it doesn't look any better). The Animatrix is clearly HD.

As such, if for example there is ever an Animatrix 2, there is some small hope they might upscale the original to 4K to re-release it.
