Asian producers have been slipping into the Hollywood mainstream for years now.
They figure, instead of trying to compete with Hollywood, why not just buy it? ROGUE NATION and STAR TREK BEYOND are just two big blockbusters funded in part by Alibaba Pictures. Notice also the Asians are now the heroes, and not just villains too. THE MEG looks interesting, but I have trouble believing that a shark can be that ridiculously big and fast. They have Jason Statham there for western audiences and Li Bingbing for eastern audiences, and a big 3D action movie that doesn't take a lot of dialogue to understand so it should do well worldwide. |

The movie is fun. But it ignores a lot of scientific principles like "The Core" does.
Its more of a Godzilla movie but with a shark. Or what an Independence day movie is to an alien invasion. If you think of it like that, you can't go wrong. I'd give it an 8/10 for fun factor. |

Damnit, why can’t HMV deliver internationally (even for a high price), and why can’t they do 4K+3D editions? With exclusive rights, they’re the only UK retailer with the opportunity to do these things and it’s wasted on them.
Now I have to choose between paying £37 for HMV’s 3D-only steel (groupbuy price), or paying €35 for the French 4K+3D steel (Fnac.com) which unfortunately has the lazy French title ‘En Eaux Troubles’. Last edited by rwc; 09-29-2018 at 09:51 PM. |

Waiting for the 4K + 3D steel to come out if it ever does.
I'm surprised that the US never made a steel for this movie. |

Just wanted to quickly mention, my 3D/2D Steel - no 4K (with same art) arrived today from Kimchi (as I could not find a dedicated Kimchi thread and found no reason to start one).
This is the first time I ever received a floater disc in a Kimchi shipment but fortunately, since Blu-ray discs are so robust, no damage to either disc at all. ![]() Steel is prefect, wrapping was as usual, over abundant. I'm looking forward to watching this popcorn flik in 3D. Sure, no heavy thought process required but that describes MOST films as of late. At least the subject material was intended to be viewed with tongue firmly in cheek. ![]() edit: also, this should easily get me and a couple of friends in the mood for a "Sharknado" marathon, courtesy of the Steel released for that Magnum Opus! (with copious quantities of stimulants to be indulged). Last edited by Gorgon; 12-27-2018 at 08:25 PM. |
