Default Mandy (2018)

I searched for an existing thread but couldn't find one.

From Deadline:
Quote:
Project is produced by SpectreVision’s Daniel Noah, Josh C. Waller and Elijah Wood, XYZ Films’ Nate Bolotin and Umedia’s Adrian Politowski and is exec produced by Nick Spicer, Lisa Whalen, Todd Brown, Martin Metz, Peter Bevan, Christopher Figg and Robert Whitehouse with Umedia and Piccadilly Pictures financing.

Film is currently in pre-production and set to shoot this summer in Belgium. XYZ Films is handling worldwide sales.

Mandy is set in the primal wilderness of 1983 where Red Miller, a broken and haunted man hunts an unhinged religious sect who slaughtered the love of his life.

“Panos is one of the most vital young filmmakers alive, a pop-culture Kubrick in the making,” said Noah, SpectreVision’s Head of Development. “Nicolas Cage is a veritable god to those of us who grew up watching his classic performances. Bringing these two together for this surrealist, heavy-metal-soaked story of battle axes and demon bikers is unfathomably exciting to us.”

Also aboard the project is Oscar-nominated composer Jóhann Jóhannsson (Sicario, Arrival).
I haven't seen Beyond the Black Rainbow but this sounds all kinds of awesome.

Very much in support of this. A film that will equal Cage in strangeness.

I saw 'Beyond the Black Rainbow' and the filmmaker definitely has a gift for style, imagery, and atmosphere. If he can make the plot amount to something a little more compelling this time, it would be appreciated.

I'll give this a shot.

Beyond the Black Rainbow is mainly an exercise in style, but the style was great. It's a chilly low budget mixture of sci-fi Kubrick, early Cronenberg and various other futuristic 70s influences. It also goes on for at least half an hour too long and takes a WTF turn into slasher movie territory for the last 15 minutes. Looking forward to what Cosmatos does next though.

The wait on these smaller films is indeed rough. I really enjoyed BTBR and cage is the icing on the cake. Wish I could support this before I forget its even a thing.

If the script is an improvement over Beyond the Black Rainbow, this film could be awesome.

He never stopped being great. Cage can make almost any schlock watchable.

He still makes good movies occasionally, like Joe or Bad Lieutenant, but because they're small films and not big studio multiplex movies, they get lost amid all his straight-to-video crap.

I'm really hoping someone like A24 or NEON pick this up for distribution.
