Default 4k superman Digital has the Extended Cut

On the Superman The Movie Anyanywere Digita version has the HDM 3hr 8 min Extended Cut of the movie as an extra.

It's not ideal but was a nice surprise.
I pickup the digital 4k version of the boxset for 30 bucks at fanflix.com
Or you can buythe individual 4k movies for about 7 bucks a piece. The price may be the same on MA

They offer a individual digital version of the Extended cut I think for 5 maybe 7 buck I can't recall. The digital version of the Extended Cut is the same as the extra on the 4k digital movie of superman the movie.

So anyway I but the digital for 30.00 a d have anthology set so I'm good and save $70

It has the original mono main and end titles as opposed to the terribly edited versions on the Blu-ray, so I can't write it off entirely.

The extended cut is only in HD, not 4K.

If Donner didn't want it, I don't, either. The movie's perfect the way it is.

I get it, but it is like watching Apocalypse Redux, there is no need for the house in the middle of this warzone but if you are in this frame of mind for the film all the extra stuff gives you more time with the heroes of the film.

A couple of additional adds are Supes waiting for rocket one and the Gauntlet.

The Gauntlet has to be one of the most Supes like things from the comics to grace film.

I know there is the whole mismatch, with Otis and Lex conversation,... "you mean fire bullets won't hurt this guy"

I would have edited Otis,.... "you mean......... this stuff here will kill him.. Ah"

So the original extended cut from 2000 wasn't Donner approved?

No it was not. At that point for those of us now feeling old, it was an TV broadcast or a 16mm print in 4:3 that was shown in the U.S with extended scenes for the sake of the broadcast and to add revenue.

However when WBA released the blu, they magically found the 3hr 8 min cut of Superman on an IP (Geoff amended as needed) and mastered a disc based on that cut. WB however put their own personal touch on it and tried to add the Stereo beginning and end titles to the rest of the mono soundtrack and made a boo boo just so the 4k team don't feel so bad.

It is not Donner's cut but man it has a place is Supes home video history now that can't be matched, except maybe Superman 2 extended if they ever release it.

I don't think the extended cut of STM is poor just maybe to be reserved for special evenings when you want to disconnect from the outside World for longer than 2hrs and enjoy this amazing Superman World because of the likes of Reeve, Kidder and Donner that made us believe a man can fly!

He worked on it with Thau.

The TV cut was just all the scenes lumped together according to Donner, which is pretty common for that era of extended TV cuts.

Having watched the 2018 disc last night, I plan on revisiting the SE and Expanded Cut BDs. I'll take a look of at least some of the theatrical BD as it's been a while too. If anything, as a Superman fan, all of these discs make it interesting to check out again.

Are we talking about the 3-hour TV cut or the "special edition" extended version? If the streaming version now includes a fixed 3-hour TV cut without the hack job of the main/end titles, then yeah that's frustrating that I bought the disc just to hear later the online version is technically better as far as the film itself, not factoring in the loss of quality from streaming.

It never fails. Just call the 3 hour cut the TV cut!!!!
The 3 hour TV cut in HD is what he's talking about.

Yes, the 3 hour TV version is included with the digital copy. It's new to Movies Anywhere but has been included on iTunes for years. It is the same HD picture transfer as the Warner Archive Blu-ray release but without the terribly edited stereo main and end titles. Its plays completely in mono as the TV cut should.
