Battle Beyond the Stars Blu-ray

Battle Beyond the Stars Blu-ray Review

[Show spoiler]

Amazon is now taking preorders. They have this coming out tomorrow (April 12), which I assume is a typo. The DVD is scheduled for July 12, 2011 which seems more realistic.

That's a bit odd. When I placed my order from the above link, using Amazon Prime free two day delivery, the invoice now states: Estimated delivery: Apr. 14, 2011. From my location I usually get release day delivery.

Yeah, I think Amazon just has a typo in their release date. I'm sure it'll get fixed soon, and the delivery date will be adjusted.

John Sayles meets Late-70's Original-SW Ripoff...
May not be Sayles' coolest bit of early B-Corman work, but it's in the top three.
(Featuring that James Horner score you've heard in a hundred B-movies!)

James Horner's soundtrack for this movie is lightyears ahead of the movie. I can;t help but laugh at the way some of the heroes pilot their ship( especially the one by helmed by George Peppard's Cowboy and Saint-Exmin) Definitely a fun Star Wars rip-off( with lots of unintentional laughs).

I remember catching this on TV back in '81 or so, thought it was pretty damn cool. Of course it was coming off the recent cancellation of BSG, and even Buck Rogers. Might pick this up for cheap, just for the nostalgia.

Yikes, I totally forgot this even existed.

I might have to go back and edit my post in the 'worst movie you've ever seen in a theater' thread

And lots of intentional ones, which is rare for the genre--
Before John Sayles went on to get his struggling start on "The Howling", he did Roger Corman scripts for Battle, "Alligator", "Piranha" and "The Challenge" that define "What is a smart B-movie?"

(Usually, when you ask, the answer is "Larry Cohen"--
But the future screenwriter of "Eight Men Out" and "Brother From Another Planet", on Corman's payroll, showed how to push the right B-thrills on a cheapo budget and still insert a note of tongue-in-cheek...And intentional tongue-in-cheek is just about the hardest darn thing in the world to do.)

Counting down the hours till release: 10...9...7...15...8...Did I already say 15?

Wow, this one came in under the radar. I knew it was coming, but I'd never heard a date or saw any cover art. Is the release date a typo or something..?
In any case, I'm just glad Shout are still putting out more Corman Blu's.

Amazon has now updated the release date. As I suspected, it's July 12.

Not sure I understand the question -- the existing DVD is long out-of-print (and wasn't even anamorphic). So, no... they're not going to port that transfer.

Most of the Shout Factory BDs have been rock solid. Starcrash, for example, looked better than it had any right to look.

The best thing about this movie is the design of the ship... It's so... Masculine.

I noticed this when I preordered BBTS

Blu-ray Double Feature Shout!factory
http://www.amazon.com/Blu-ray-Double...2730237&sr=1-1

Doesn't look complete, but has a release date. Are Shout! going to release some of their double feature films as Blurays. With the whole grindhouse experience like their double feature DVD's? That would be great.

This was great fun. I still remember Sybil Danning's costume! Even the ship Nell was anatomically correct!

The film which Cameron started out in the art department and ended up art director. If the film had gone on for a week longer he would have ended up Supreme Overlord of Earth and Heir to the Milky Way!

Are these region free?
