Deleted and extended scenes, with commentary by von Trier
Deleted scene featuring the late actor Katrin Cartlidge
Cannes Film Festival promotional clip
Trailer
New English subtitle translation
One Blu-ray and two DVDs, with all content available in both formats
PLUS: An essay by critic David Sterritt
Quote:
Lars von Trier became an international sensation with this galvanizing realist fable about sex and spiritual transcendence. Emily Watson stuns, in an Oscar-nominated performance, as Bess, a simple, pious newlywed in a tiny Scottish village who gives herself up to a shocking form of martyrdom after her husband (Stellan Skarsgård) is paralyzed in an oil-rig accident. Breaking the Waves, both brazen and tender, profane and pure, is an examination of the expansiveness of faith and of its limits.

I'm curious as to whether they went back to the original Super-35 negative to do the 4K scan, or if they used the same SD-quality film-out that was used for the theatrical prints and every existing video version of BREAKING THE WAVES.

I'm curious if Criterion will use the original song list with David Bowie, or the U.S. only song list with Elton John for their release.

Really interested in finding this out as well. A 4k scan would be pretty strange if it wasn't from the original negative. Does anyone know anything about this?

The laserdisc version of the Criterion release was an extended cut (or uncut version) by Von Trier -- is the upcoming Blu-Ray also the full version? Thanks in advance to anyone who knows.

Dogville is the only Lars von Trier film I've ever seen. Based on that, I might blind buy this one.

Yeah, this is a truly great film. And it's been a while since I've seen it, but it's so memorable. Just pre-ordered it.

And I decided, WTF, might as well get both "Melancholia" and "Antichrist" -- two films I've been meaning to buy for a while, and just hadn't gotten around to it.

So, it's a Lars triple feature.

Now, if they will EVER get around to "Dogville" -- grr!

From the Beaver review:

Quote:
NOTE: David Bowie's "Life on Mars" is used at the Funeral Title card (Not the Elton John's "Your Song".)

The screen grabs on the DVD Beaver review look like they went back to the original negative, so this will literally look way better (and vastly different) than BREAKING THE WAVES ever has before, even a pristine theatrical print.

Looks beautiful. I couldn't barely get into Dogville. This is WAY better than that film imho.
