A 50+ year old with a huge butt and her 12 year old daughter are going to kick ass. Can't wait.

Lopez is very good & most of the action is well done (though the bit in Cuba where she chases a guy while driving the world's slowest car is hilariously inept, & the finale is a bit of a damp squib), but as ever with a Netflix movie, the pacing is dreadful. It got to what I presumed would be the big finale & I looked at the clock & saw there another HOUR to go. The whole thing just drags when it should be rattling along.
Also, I'm not sure if it's the actress or the writing, but the daughter was terrible. Nice poster & trailer though. ![]() |

I would have expected more from Niki Caro, whose career I've been following since Whale Rider, but then again, this is another case of potentially intriguing material being sidelined by the need to turn this into a star vehicle for JLo.
You can almost feel the underlying themes that the material could have explored more adroitly, had this been made as something other than a star vehicle; most notably, the movie completely wastes the talents of Gael Garcia Bernal, whose characterization here is one of the most forgettable of his career. Having said that, I was pleasantly surprised by how well the Canary Islands stood in for Havana. Those islands seem to be getting increasingly popular with the film crews these days. |
