Quite a difference! Both are flawed to me, with the LG looking somewhat drab and slathered in DNR, whilst the SC looks like it's from an older but more vibrant master. What are your opinions? SC has the original(?) 5.1 DTS track whilst LG has a 7.1 remix. |

The SC is a touch blownout, true, and the edge enhancement may(?) be a tad more noticeable, but I think the overall appearence of the SC is better than the dull and grainless LG. CI is a bright, colourful, vibrant adventure picture, but only the (admittedly imperfect) SC comes close to replicating that.

Judging by the caps alone I'm not sure how anyone could prefer the blown-out look of the Studio Canal. Clearly an older 2K master that's been sharpened, brightened, and color boosted.
The grain reduction on the Lionsgate is regrettable (not that I'm seeing much grain on the SC) but the superior color grade easily tips the scales in its favor IMO. Anyway, it's the one I own and it looks quite solid in motion. Would buy a proper 4K edition in a heartbeat though. |

I own a copy from when it first came out, but it has played fine throughout the years. So if I purchase a copy from Amazon, I'm gonna get a newer pressed disc that won't rot on me?

LG color looks far more natural and cinematic IMO. Admittedly though, as someone who has worked frequently in color correction I have a strong bias against overly-brightened transfers. Also the SC is littered with scanner noise, a true hallmark of a dated HD master. Very similar to their release of Brotherhood of The Wolf.

This is like trying to decide which rotten egg tastes better. At the end of the day they both suck and we need a 4K!

All this thread has done is make me want a Blu-ray really bad for Earth Girls Are Easy. Both transfers could be better but Cutthroat Island is a fun movie needs a 4K release badly and Earth Girls Are Easy a Blu-ray. One of Geena's best movies imo.
