Default Blu-ray Movie Price Drop?

So when Blu-ray becomes the main High Definition movie source...and it will...does anyone know if they are planning to drop the prices on new Blu-ray movies? Because although they are the best...right now $29.99 is pretty high for my budget to get one movie.

I found the original Holloween for 19.99, but that is an older movie so that is expected. Everything new I have seen in the 20.00 range.

In my opinion its just like standard DVDs, not too long ago they were all at least 20$ and now u can get them for like 6 or 7. Give Blu-rays time and they will come down also. Might be awile before we see them entering the 6 or 7 dollar area.

YOU and others in US are the BEST POSITION AND PLACE in 2008 to buy CHEAP BluRays (and HDdvds) - I'm livin' in Budapest, HUNGARY - work in the cinema industry last 15 years (have many COOL info up-to-date in Europe, direct contact with the "decision-maker" people in the best job in HD all around the world. WE have to know the NEAR future ... )

so have to check the eBay for less price - I usually buy from 9.00 USD - 25 USD PER ITEM - mostly $10-$16 ( only boxes and special editions like BLADE RUNNER paid more INCLUDED S/H FEE to Budapest HUNGARY in European Union !!!

I'm guessing that the studios are going to work diligently to avoid the price collapse that dvds have seen in recent years.

lol, if anything the price will go up. For all the ignorant bashing of HD DVD that goes on around here, nobody seemed to notice that it was a strong competing format that forced blu-ray to lower it's prices and speed up its quality control.

So, now that HD DVD is going away...you're already seeing zero BOGOs. I wouldn't expect the regular prices to drop AT ALL until at least 2009.

I still can't believe new DVDs are so cheap. You'd be an extreme sucker at this point to spend $20 on a DVD. First because the format is horrible given what we now have available to us. (My wife was watching a DVD today and I literally couldn't sit and watch it because it looked so bad).

Second, because even these new releases are like half the price 2 weeks later.

You know, I find it amusing how people think we needed HD DVD to get prices down, after all they were the only competition BR had right? I of course mean if you COMPLETELY IGNORE THE HUGE WHITE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM NAMED DVD!!

Come on people, get a grip on reality! HD DVD was not, is not, and will never be, the real competitor to BR. It was, is, and will be for the foreseeable future, DVD. Yes, BR prices will come down as manufacturing costs continue to fall, production runs increase, and the BDA starts really competing with DVD.

Sales and high prices will be scattered, no definite on one or the other.

And there are plentttyyyy of Blu's in the $18 range if buying online. (new ones at that) not to mention quite a few in the 12-15 range, and this is reg price, not talking about coupons and what have you's.

Like many others in the forum, I've become accustomed to paying between $5 & $10 for SD-DVD, but I also remember paying a lot more than that. I remember paying $30 for American Pie many moons ago at Suncoast. Even that was a sale price. The point is that while I will never pass up a good BOGO or discount BD, I am willing to pay for new releases. March 11th will be a killer, but I know that no matter what the price is I'll be buying Dan in Real Life, No Country for Old Men, & Gattaca.

Hmmm...I haven't really addressed the price drop issue, but just like DVDs, the prices will eventually drop, especially when the BDA takes on DVDs full on. In the meantime, enjoy cutting edge technology that most people don't even know about. I know I will.

I wouldn't say a price collapse. The market is saturated and they are making a killing. You won't see DVD like prices until HD has the market penetration DVD has.

I dont Think BR prices will come down to much if any at all.

I noticed SD DVD's are now $21.99. I havent bought one in a long time but noticed it at CC the other day.

After the first Week on new releases they are now going to $21.99 instead of $19.99

Why should we "give them time"? I'm giving them money. I need to give them more time, to take more money?

I'm not sure I understand your point.

Should you support their efforts by paying higher prices?
