Default Origin | Ava DuVernay

Quote:
After the success of her documentary “13th” and miniseries “When They See Us,” Ava DuVernay has set her first feature film at Netflix.

The Oscar-nominated filmmaker will write, direct and produce the feature adaptation of Isabel Wilkerson’s critically-acclaimed novel “Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents.”

The film adaptation, titled “Caste,” will use a multiple-story structure to examine the “unspoken system that has shaped America and chronicles how our lives today are defined by a hierarchy of human divisions dating back generations.” The novel, published in August 2020 by Pulitzer Prize winner Wilkerson, was a New York Times best-seller and an Oprah’s Book Club selection. This isn't Netflix anymore btw, they cut ties with it earlier this year when the head of their Independent & Documentary division (Lisa Nishimura) was fired. She helped Ava get the project off the ground.

I guess Netflix held some kind of grudge to drop it. Good thing it was picked up by NEON, it'll have much better chances at awards under them.

Not only that, this helps to ensure the movie is actually released theatrically.

Having watched this already, I would totally recommend it. I don't think it fully explores the premise it sets out to do, but with the running time already a bit over 2 hours, it really didn't need to be any longer, either.

Would have helped if it had included a few more details about the caste system in India, imho.

Absolutely loved this movie. Hoping the Blu-ray/4K has a director's commentary as I'd love to hear Ava's thoughts.

I just got a notice from Bull Moose refunding my order and saying the disc had been cancelled.

Anyone getting the same from other vendors?
