Default L&R front speakers - Perpendicular or Angled??

All diagrams and pictures I've seen of a 5.1 surround sound system have shown the left and right front speakers to face perpendicular to the viewing area of a home theather setup. I normally have my speakers angled towards the sweet spot and instead found it to sound a little better. I know the important thing is how it sounds best to me, but are the left and right front speakers made to be positioned to face perpendicular to the viewing area? If so, maybe I need to tweak my setup even more to possibly get better sound by having the speakers perpendicular instead of angled. I have a +five year old SONY HTD-DW840 which includes the STR-K840P receiver. Opinions?

I angle my fronts slightly in so they meet where the listener (me) sits.

Mine too.

I read about the golden triangle or something like that... The distance between the left and right speakers should be the same as the distance you are away from them. So 10 foot viewing distance, 10 feet apart.

Works well for me.

I have fronts and rears angled in to the sweet spot. If it sounds better to you, thats whats important.

Mine are toed in to the viewing position, too, but further apart than this rule. Two things you can do, if you like a wider stage. Greater distance between them or toe them out more. It's all personal preference, to me.
