I can't wait. Love Miike and we all need more of it on blu. I was hoping Arrow was going to release a nice edition of this but they currently only have a steelbook for sale, due in April. So I'll probably just pick this version up at $15 which is a steal.

This is being marketed as his 100th film, which isn't really true. But it is his 100th IMDB director credit.

I never looked into it, is that because he did TV movies? or are they just making it up as a marketing ploy.

Well he has done episodes of shows, which they're counting towards the 100.

Yeah there is an article in Sight and Sound that discusses this ad nauseum.

Does anyone know what special features will be on this release? Compared to the Arrow release?

the guy makes five movies a year it seems. I don't know how he does it. it's impossible to keep up. and not enough get released here. audition was made almost 20 years ago and he had worked on movies for a few years before that.

but sure, let's go with what imdb says. because we all know that anything on IMDb must be true.

I saw this movie in the theatre and it was awesome. totslly worth having in the collection.

I had a $5 certificate from BB that was expiring today. Ordered the SB for home delivery.

Couldn’t wait until Tuesday, it was on the shelf today so I picked up a copy. Has a very nice embossed slipcover. Can’t wait to watch this.

Not quite as good as 13 Assassins but still top-tier Miike. It's the relationship between Manji and the little girl that really elevates it though. Can't wait to re-watch on Tuesday.

Can finally stop hating myself for missing in this theatres. Hoping to watch it this weekend.

For anyone who cares about slipcovers, this one is actually pretty snazzy.

Thumbs up

Wow. Just finished watching this in one sitting at home (meaning no smoke breaks and that’s a rarity). I really dug it. As a blind buy I am very happy. Can’t wait to check it out again in the short term.

Definitely felt like I was watching a live action Ninja Scroll for the first hour or so.

This movie was incredible. Completely disagree with the 3.5 rating the reviewer gave it. It's a 4.5 easy. I put this over 13 assassins.

the reviewer in this case, who i frequently see writing about japanese films on the site, has (in my opinion) often managed to misjudge films, and has also here specifically written some bizarre off-the-mark comments about the director of this particular film.

i've no interest in wrangling the details of that, because i can't be bothered to, but i often open reviews of japanese films and see who has written the review - and upon seeing the name of this particular reviewer, either don't bother continuing (75% of the time) or has some bizarre curiosity to see how down on the film he is.

This is one of the best slipcovers I've ever seen. Do you guys agree? It's so nice that I actually chose it over the BB steelbook, which is a pretty cool steelbook if you ask me.

I concur sir lol. The slip is gorgeous. And I agree with the other poster that I enjoyed this more than 13 Assassins. Though I haven’t watched many of his films .

Yeah, it seems like the only reviewer here who is actually open to non-USA films is Dr. Svet Atanasov. I'd rather he get to review all foreign films outside the US as he has proven to be easily the most knowledgeable and open-minded reviewer here, especially in regards to these films.
