Default The Raid & The Raid 2 in 4K UHD

I was watching the first film last night on Blu-Ray--and it blew my mind how well all of the action has held up by today's standards, considering all of the filmmakers that have attempted to riff on Gareth Evans' style. Also, with the recent trailer for 'Gangs of London' (Evans' new series for Sky) I felt like revisiting all of his films again.

Both of 'The Raid' films still rank among my favorite action films ever, so I would really love to see them get the UHD treatment.

Especially since the standard blu for the first film, is riddled with banding and compression artifacts, and has not held up well in the visual department, unfortunately.

These are both absolutely two of the best action movies of the past decade. I really wish Evans would put everything he's currently working on on hold in order to do a third one.

I'm not sure what he has lined up post-'Gangs of London'.

I remember he was being courted for 'Deathstroke' at one point, but I think that's collapsed since then.

I like what he's done after the Raid films, though. He really flexed his muscles with 'Apostle', and showed he can be as equally gifted a horror filmmaker as he is with action.

Always loved The Raid but the second one never clicked with me at all. It's still got some great action but all that pesky drama stuff was boring as hell. Need to give it a rewatch mind you.

And yeah, the US Blu of Raid 1 ain't great (doesn't help that the movie was shot on a potato) but the UK version was even worse for banding so I was glad to get the US one in the end.

The US disc is the one to get because of the original audio track, for the sequel the UK disc is the one to get because it contains the unrated version.

You really should give The Raid 2 another chance. Personally, I love it as much as the original. The story, characters and the action all are excellent and the drama blends in perfectly, it really gives the movie that special something IMO.

Anyone following Gareth Evans on Instagram? Sounds like he's working on a new colour grade. Looks great to me and if it means a 4K release, even better.

Here's a sneak peek of the grading work that Mr Evans posted to his Instagram back in May: https://www.instagram.com/p/CsI4hkfIrkG/

I've no idea how far along they are now, but The Raid 4K is a-coming, and I'll be picking it up on day 1!
