Germany PATHAAN Blu-ray (Germany)

BollyLove, the Hindi label from German home media distributor Alive AG, has announced on Twitter that they're releasing the Yash Raj Films smash hit PATHAAN, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and John Abraham, on Blu-ray and DVD with German dubbing, in July or August of 2023.

BollyLove is known for their German Blu-rays of the Hindi films Dil Bechara and Baar Baar Dekho, both of which did not receive a Blu-ray release in India.

Their release of Baar Baar Dekho was neat. But the label is known for using BD-25 discs and not supplying their releases with English subtitles and lossless audio. Most, if not all of the Hindi films they've put out on Blu-ray have only featured Dolby Digital 5.1 lossy audio tracks in Hindi and German, while the DVDs only featured stereo audio.

At this point I'm grateful an Indian blockbuster is receiving a Blu-ray release, but it would be a shame if the German Blu-ray will not feature HD audio, as the film is currently streaming on Prime in Atmos, and YRF and Dolby both made a
big deal out of the audio mix for Pathaan. So fingers crossed!

I'm still hoping for a complete, feature-packed Blu-ray release from YRF Home Entertainment in Fr4me packaging (if they haven't totally given up on the physical media market in India), because that is absolutely deserved for such a mega hit.

Here's a mock-up to drool over in the meantime...

At least the members here should should tweet their concerns to Bolly:love and request for a Dolby Atmos/DTS:X audio in a BD50 release with NO censorships in the songs. A sizeable response will make them rethink over dishing out shoddy audio in a BD25 release

An uncensored release is impossible. CBFC demanded YRF to replace scenes of Deepika’s ass with beauty shots and that cut made it to Prime. Even the Extended Version on OTT doesn’t include the uncensored song.

The specs are listed here: BD-50 with German and Hindi lossy tracks (Dolby Digital 5.1). And probably in 448 kbps like their previous releases.

Press release further confirming the absence of lossless audio.

Official product page only listing DD 5.1.

I, for one, would never buy their Blu-rays. Not including lossless audio is totally inexcusable. It's because people buy their crap, that they continue to provide crap. I actually can't think of any other company that does this. As for the people who buy these blu-rays....

Dil Bechara is a mess. The original Hindi mix is weird in sounding. I wish I had the opportunity to return.

Pathaan in my opinion had one of the worst sound mixes of recent times. I for one do not understand whats even the point of mixing sound when everything is just dominated by screechingly loud score. In the attempt to dumb down every single second to the masses the makers are so excruciatingly hell bent on feeding the emotions (or the complete lack there of in this movie's case) via loudest music that no matter how much a sound effects guy may have worked on tons of subtle stuff, if music is this powerful the purpose is totally defeated.

The youtube video is just an advertisement of dolby atmos and nothing else. specifically the helicopter scene Anuj Mathur talks about was infact the worst part of whole movie. they had such an awesome opportunity here to highlight the chopper blades, the Minigun attached, the blast, the different guns and punches used. However in both my viewings at two of the best theatres in the city, this scene (An entrance scene of the biggest superstar for crying out loud !) sounded really bad in ways thats only seen in most low budget movies

^Yeah, I remember thinking, "What is this crap song they're playing?" - it was so awfully generic too. And the BGM was terrible in terms of how it shifted between the Pathaan and Jim themes in the scenes they were together. Reprising the themes is fine, but it was done in such a clumsy cut-paste manner, like they were scoring for some saas-bahu TV serial.

So is it safe to assume YRF Home Entertainment is inactive? They haven't released Shamshera on a physical format. Normally YRF at least makes sure there's a DVD available for their box office bombs. While Pathaan was a hit, there hasn't been an announcement for a physical release (yet).

Given how long it has been since the release, it seems unlikely that YRF is going to release this on blu ray.

Pathaan would have been a great BD to own. In my home entertainment fantasy world, I thought this might be India's first 4K UHD BD release.

I'm afraid YRF gave up on home video in India. Their BO bomb Samrat Prithviraj was immediately available on DVD after the theatrical release, but they haven't let us know anything about Pathaan. Seems like they're going to license their titles to foreign distributors across Asia and in Germany.

Wow, those bit-rates are truly atrocious. Particularly the audio. Why did they even bother if they don't even want to do it right.

Thank you for this update, though.

They lowered the bitrate further to 384 kbps. That is the same as Dolby Digital 5.1 from the iTunes Store... I wonder why this label hates lossless audio so much. It's 2023.

Looks significantly filtered, not sure how much of that is from the original DI.
