Default Cinemax's "Strike Back" (Season 7)

"Strike Back" Reboot Gets Series Order By Cinemax & Sky, Sets Core Cast
by Nellie Andreeva
December 8, 2016

"Strike Back" is back. A new incarnation of the popular action series with new characters and a new cast has been greenlighted by Cinemax and Sky to film in 2017.

Alin Sumarwata, Aussie Daniel MacPherson, Roxanne McKee and Warren Brown are set to star in the new season of the show — its sixth overall and fifth on Cinemax — from the franchise’s executive producer Andy Harries of Left Bank Pictures.

I hear Harries — who was behind the original season-long "Strike Back" on Sky starring Richard Armitage and Andrew Lincoln, and the Cinemax-Sky collaboration, toplined by Sullivan Stapleton and Philip Winchester, which ran for four seasons — had the idea for another reboot, which both networks embraced.

I hear the new "Strike Back" is evolving from the buddy cop formula of the original into a diverse ensemble in the mold of The Fast and the Furious franchise. And while the previous incarnations were focused largely on the remnants of Al-Qaeda, the storylines of the new "Strike Back" will reflect the rise of ISIS.

There are no current plans for Stapleton or Winchester to reprise their roles in guest starring stints but I hear that is a possibility.

In the new "Strike Back", written by Jack Lothian, disavowed and disbanded, the Section program is restored in order to track down a notorious terrorist following a brutal prison break. Tasked with covert military intelligence and high-risk operations, the resurrected unit embarks on a lethal manhunt that will uncover a vast web of interconnected criminal activity.

As the team journey across the Middle East and Europe, they uncover a deadly conspiracy which threatens to overwhelm them all and change the face of modern warfare forever.

Sumarwata plays Gracie Novin, a gear-head who is looking to make the step up. Genuine, honest to the point of bluntness, she’s the heart and soul of the team.

MacPherson plays Samuel Wyatt, a bar-room philosopher who works best alone and has no intention of being dragged into a team situation.

McKee plays Natalie Roberts, who comes from a military family, excels at psychological profiles and seeking weaknesses in others, although she might be blinded to her own fault-lines.

Brown is Daniel “Mac” Macallister, a man of his word, affable, physically capable, and driven by a desire to avenge the team he’s lost.

Lothian, who serves as showrunner, executive produces with Harries and Sharon Hughff for Left Bank Pictures.

Michael J. Bassett will serve as director and executive producer, Bill Shephard as producer.

Studios need to stop calling it a reboot, they seem to think reboot means a continuation when it really means reset. The Cinemax series (aka UK season 2-5) was basically a spinoff of the original so if this is a spinoff of both then I'm all for it.

Now WB/Cinemax just need to re-release them all with the correct names instead of acting like the original UK version didn't really happen. They FINALLY aired it in the US as Strike Back Origins but only after season 3 in the US had already aired and then they never even released it here. They should release that on BD as "Strike Back" and then give 2-5 the correct subtitles that were used in the UK ("Project Dawn," "Vengeance," "Shadow Warfare," "Legacy").

I'm up for this, hopefully they can do as good a job with this as they did with the original series.

I might not actually be an entire reboot to begin with it could continue where it left off and follow a new team dealing with similar situations that happend in previous season's just say that the two previous character's had retired or moved on etc i like the idea of this really enjoyed this show and i own most of the season's on blu-ray too.

"Strike Back": Cinemax Rounds Out Cast as Season 5 Production Begins
by Denise Petski
April 26, 2017

Nina Sosanya (David Brent: Life on the Road, Love Actually), Katherine Kelly (The Night Manager, Happy Valley) and Trevor Eve (Death of a Farmer, Troy) round out the Season 5 cast of Cinemax and Sky’s reboot of "Strike Back".

They join previously announced new series stars Warren Brown as “Mac” McAllister, Daniel MacPherson as Samuel Wyatt, Roxanne McKee as Natalie Reynolds and Alin Sumarwata as Gracie Novin.

Filming has begun on the new season — its sixth overall and fifth on Cinemax – on location in Jordan and Hungary.

In the new Season 5, written by Jack Lothian, disavowed and disbanded, the Section program is restored in order to track down a notorious terrorist following a brutal prison break. Tasked with covert military intelligence and high-risk operations, the resurrected unit embarks on a lethal manhunt that will uncover a vast web of interconnected criminal activity.

As the team journeys across the Middle East and Europe, they uncover a deadly conspiracy that threatens to overwhelm them all and change the face of modern warfare forever.

Sosanya will play Adeena Donovan, Kelly is Jane Lowry and Eve will portray Morgan Ives.

"Strike Back’s" confidential consultants, who work in the field of counterterrorism, will also return for the new season. They provide insight into the highly secretive world of “Black Ops”, and also train the cast in battle tactics, weaponry and combat, as the lead actors do the majority of their own stunts.

"Strike Back" is executive produced by Cameron Roach for Sky and Andy Harries for Left Bank Pictures along with Sharon Hughff. Also returning for season five are director/executive producer Michael Bassett and showrunner/writer Jack Lothian, who also executive produces.

I hope this show comes out good!

I am anticipating it, and, hope I like it as much as I did Cinemax Seasons 3 and 4. The only season I didn't see was the very first on Sky (Origins) - It looked different but quite good itself from what I saw of it (clips) on YouTube.

I'm a little worried about this revival because I have hated the recent revivals of 24, etc. I'll still give this revival a chance; I am hoping for the very best out of this.

I guess I have to say "Welcome Back Cinemax" to my lineup when this show comes out.

Well, Cinemax aired the original series sometime between seasons 4 and 5 and called it "Strike Back Origins" so you still could have seen it I'm surprised they didn't release it on BD after that though, even if it was just putting the same discs into the US market... but I also thought it was stupid to not have aired it before they started their own spinoff series. Could have started airing the "real" first season 2 months before Cinemax's version started and that would give it 2 weeks off before their version started, and kept the original UK subtitles for each season.

It seems like this is a 2nd continuation so that's good, if it had been a full reboot then I probably wouldn't have bothered.

Hope they keep up the good action scenes, some of them were feature quality. There's a shortage of action shows on TV.

Hope its as good as the original. Wouldn't mind a few cameos from the old crew. (Especially Phillip Winchester; dude's had two or three shows cancelled the last few years...)

They should just put Philip Winchester on the show permanently.

I could see Philip Winchester showing up, but Sullivan Stapleton is probably too busy with Blindspot to bother, and plus his character either
[Show spoiler]retired or is pretending like he's dead or something.. I couldn't figure that one out, since Stonebridge gave that guy his dogtag at the end of the show so it was like he's pretending to be dead lol
