I think this goes back to the early days but there was one episode (I don't think I'm imagining it) where the first obstacle at the end was the snotty nose. Well the team was so inept that that was the only flag they captured. They only won Conair products worth $50 lol. Surely someone else remembers that.

I remember being in 5th grade when that show began.. everyone at school loved it.
Show I miss was Starcade... the video game game show... Out of control was one I watched, limited number of episodes means I saw each one about 15 times apiece |

Nickelodeon in the eighties was amazing. YCDTOT, Danger Mouse, Third Eye, Nick Rocks, Special Delivery on the weekends, Pinwheel and Today’s Special for the kids. Got really good when Double Dare, Star Trek, Mysterious Cities of Gold and Spartakus were added. David the Gnome, Belle and Sebastian, Lassie, The Monkees, The Little Prince, Nick Arcade, Finders Keepers, Inspector Gadget...
Good Lord, my nostalgia just went into overdrive. But yes, I remember Double Dare. |

Good old Nick, mid day you either parked it on Nick or MTV you had few other options. Never checked YouTube for DD but a while back I watched some of the old school You Can't Do That on Television.
Edit: No I have no clue about anything that specific, just general memories. Last edited by jokerzwild; 10-09-2017 at 01:52 AM. |

Been watching more vintage game shows again and there are very few threads on the topic. Double Dare was definitely an exciting one for those of us who were kids back then. It was really innovative for its time since there weren't shows of its kind around. Both the games and the final obstacle course were creative and was probably a lot tougher than it looked on tv. Great theme music as well. The teams who managed to complete the course in time generally did so with little time to spare. Kind of regret not getting a chance to attend one of the traveling Double Dare live events they did in the 90s. Marc Summers was such a great host as well and was no doubt a big part of its success. Back then I also had the board game and the NES game; trying to complete the obstacle course was pretty brutal on the fingers since you had to quickly arrow and button mash a lot of the course to get through. And a side note, I was also a fan of What Would You Do as a kid, though it seems to be a show that MS himself hated since it was essentially just a studio tour with tourists.
Further side note, Nickelodeon had a lot of great competition shows with Double Dare being the one to kick things off and probably the most popular. But as a kid, I absolutely would've loved to be on Wild N Crazy Kids, Nick Arcade, Guts, Legends of the Hidden Temple, etc. Finders Keepers was a fun one that is completely forgotten by now. I remember the snotty nose being a fairly regular obstacle at the end on that show. My memory is not good enough to remember that specific episode, but remember a few times when they didn't get very far, usually digging for a well hidden or stuck flag.
I think double dare was streaming on hbo max, but appears to be on paramount plus now? Starcade was also fun because I liked anything arcade at the time, but probably would be boring now. I liked the actual game playing better than the virtual games they played at the end. I really want to see the original Pinwheel show. I loved the various puppet skits and european animation/claymation they showed. |

Yes I remember Double Dare, and yes the snotty nose was one of the "find the flag" obstacle during the final "flag" obstacle course. I loved the balloon busting game where everyone's rolling around busting balloons!
I also remember The Tomorrow People and The Third Eye most notably. I have most of The TP on DVD and I have (from The Third Eye) "Under the Mountain", "Children of the Stones", and the three "Into the Labyrinth" 7-ep series all on DVD. |

I also like the decade-earlier Starcade. Last edited by Walter Kafka; 02-12-2024 at 08:34 PM. |
