Is there still no news on this, it was released on hddvd along with its sequel. Does anyone have any news on a planned release, or does it look like we shall be waiting several years for one?

Elizabeth will come to Blu-ray sooner or later, hopefully it'll be the former as it's a great film. Virtually all films will be coming to Blu-ray, it's just a matter of when and having patience.

Yep, I'm just surprised. I thought they may have released recently to capitalize on Blanchet's 'bigger' name having just stared in two very big films (Benjamin Button and Indiana Jones).

These are both BD releases I've been waiting a long time for, especially the first "Elizabeth" film. Should look and sound worthy of royalty.

So it's not as good as the hddvd's? Those where very good (albiet there was some film damage on the first film). Any answer to this would be great, as I have them ordered and can still cancel as they have yet to ship.

^ There identical to the hddvd and are both near reference transfers. Not sure the person who said the image wasn't razor sharp was talking about.

Yeah, I'd agree on the softness - it was only in places though, and I'd nearly take it as just camera work.

And #2 had black levels way off. I had to drop brightness down.

Other than that, great films. I liked the second better actually - although the first was great in how they averted wars by killing the ringleaders (something modern warmongers could take note of).

And gee, catholics... It wasn't until the last 100 or less years that they have stopped getting copius amounts of blood on their hands. Hopefully the same change will come eventually with other current ultra-violent religions, if you get my drift...
