Synopsis
JOE DANTE'S CULT CLASSIC PIRANHA IS BACK IN A NEW COLLECTOR'S EDITION WITH NEW SPECIAL FEATURES!

While searching for missing teenagers, novice skip tracer Maggie McKeown (Heather Menzies) and local town boozer Paul Grogan (Bradford Dillman) stumble upon a top-secret Army laboratory conducting genetic research on piranha fish for the purpose of developing biological warfare. When the deadly eating machines are accidently released from the compound, they're soon headed downstream and consuming everything, and anything, in their path.

Just when you thought it was safe to go in the river . . .

Piranha features a stellar group of talent in front of as well as behind the camera. The top-notch cast of cult stars includes Kevin McCarthy (Invasion Of The Body Snatchers), Barbara Steele (Black Sunday), Belinda Balaski (The Howling), Dick Miller (A Bucket Of Blood) and Paul Bartel (Death Race 2000). Piranha is director Joe Dante's second film. He would go on to direct Gremlins and Small Soldiers. Producer Jon Davison went on to produce the blockbusters RoboCop and Starship Troopers. The film also features a thrilling soundtrack by Pino Donaggio (Dressed To Kill, Carrie and Dante's The Howling).

You two get out of here with your nonsense and delete these . In all seriousness, Piranha and Alligator are my favorites of the Jaws ripoffs (they're both from the same screenwriter). I missed out on the steelbook, so this is terrific news for me and my wallet as I was this close to buying it off Ebay.
Now, to wait and hope for the best with SF

Since most (all?) of the steelbook reissues got 4k transfers I think it's only a matter of time. I'm almost certain we'll see down the line releases of Humanoids from Deep, Rock 'n' Roll High School, The Slumber Party Massacre, Galaxy of Terror and Forbidden World. Like I said, all of these already got the 4k transfer ready, so it shouldn't be too much work.

A great no budget film that manages to include Kevin McCarthy and Barbara Steele, a soundtrack by Pino Donaggio, and an introduction to the talent and quirkiness of film fan Joe Dante. Spielberg liked the film so much he hired Dante to direct Gremlins.

Think I'll drag out my 16mm projector to compare the 4K to my film print!
