Hopefully they are bringing them back because of the final product and not just based off of the Super Bowl ad response.

Awesome news. Obviously we'll have to see if this and The Avengers are successful. A long time ago, I was hoping for multiple sequels for each franchise, possibly having trilogies for each hero plus The Avengers with full continuity. Sadly that isn't exactly happening. Hopefully we'll get a lot of sequels intertwining. The shared continuity will have that comic book feel to it.

That's exactly what I'm hoping for as well. I think we're going to get full trilogies for Iron Man (obviously only one movie away), Captain America (Working on a second script is a good sign), The Avengers (there were early rumors the story would span three movies), and possibly Thor (I'm really hoping we get more than one...). As for Hulk, I loved The Incredible Hulk and want to see more movies, but it'll depend on how I see Ruffalo plays Banner. If he does a great job, I'm looking forward to seeing him move forward as Banner. Comic art changes all the time, so I'm just going to look at the recasting as a new artists rendering of the character.

Captain America is my most anticipated movie of the summer right now, and the news that they're already working on a second is really exciting to me. I think Marvel is really happy with what they've seen, so I'm hoping if that's the case that Johntson will come back to direct after he does Jurassic Park IV, which he said he was going to shoot after this.

I think we should wait to see how part 1 is and does before thinking about part 2.

Depending on how the first one is, this news could be exciting. Sometimes I love when they bring back the same crew from the first film if it worked, but if this movie turns out bad then I can't say I'd be excited.

I agree with both of you, but its not a bad idea for Marvel to have a script in place if one does turn out really well to push ahead with a second. Like I said, I'd like if they took a break and did Iron Man 3 first, and maybe Ant-Man as well before we see Captain America 2. I'm sure we won't see it until 2013 at the earliest. And that's probably for the best. But I'm glad they're already working on a second, because having it written while they're ramping up Iron Man 3 gives it the chance to cross interact after The Avengers.

This doesn't need its own thread. Could have just put it in the other.

It's a separate movie, might as well start it now.

What will be interesting to see is the continuity in relation to The Avengers.

I'm sure they won't officially green light a sequel until they see how the first one does. But having the writing team get a jump on the script isn't a bad idea at all, especially considering the intertwined continuity of the various Avengers-related movie franchises. I think it's a smart move. And besides, a sequel is almost inevitable. The first one would have to bomb big time to prevent it. And even then, they might go forward with some tweeks because of the Avengers relation.

I don't think part 1 is going to do all that good , not because it will be a bad movie but just because it is coming out too close to the last harry potter movie .

I agree. It's not really the same fan base plus major superhero movies normally tend to do pretty well for themselves especially when it is such an iconic hero such as Cap. With the recent track record for Marvel and DC films I see nothing but I sucsess.

Glad to see they're pushing forward with a sequel. My only concern is the fact that the first one hasn't been released yet. If they are truly dedicated though they'll ask fans what they liked/disliked about that one and make the sequel better.

Why are they making a 2nd movie when this one needs a reboot?

i would think this is a move to get the ball rolling on a 2nd so they can have the majority of the script in place if the 1st one is a hit @ the box office.

i would think if the 1st one makes $80-$90 million it's opening weekend, they'll give a 2nd one the official green light.

i would imagine marvel is going to aim for 2 movies a year for the next 3-4 years and by starting on a script 6 months before the 1st movie is released will help them meet that kind of time table.
