I would love this film in high-def. One of my favorite comedies of the late-'80s/early-'90s. I quote it literally daily. When it comes to a Blu-ray release, let's hope whichever studio has the rights will be "right on top of that, Rose!"

The HD transfer exists.
It's been on HDTV cable channels for probably close to a couple years now.
It should see a release, eventually.

It's crazy not identifying this movie with the 80's.
It seems so close to the 80's and I tend to recollect on it as if it were an 80's movie from my childhood.

That's true. The film does have a sort 80's feel to it with the hairstyles and the clothes they were wearing at the time. I was seven years old when this film came out in 1991 and what one of the strongest memories I have of seeing this was that I recognized Christina Applegate and how she wasn't acting like an airhead. Of course I know now that it was because she was playing a different character but back then I didn't. All I knew was she wasn't acting like Kelly which had been the only thing I knew her for at the time.

I bought the DVD a few years ago I still wish that it would have come with more Special Features other than the trailer but beggers can't be choosers. Perhaps we will get more suppliments on the blu-ray should it ever come out.

Well, wasn't Kelly an "airhead" in addition to becoming "slutty" as the seasons of Married with Children progressed? Her character in Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead was actually a departure from that typecast she was going to be cornered into because her character started off clueless but matures and becomes responsible and professional about half-way through. It really was a good role for Applegate because she was able to show she could do more than what studios and casting directors expected from her. I just don't like the smoking that her character picks up. Seemed like a cheap way to show maturity while influencing kids like me to think that it's attractive behavior to smoke.

Yeah, that's true. As Married With Children continued it took the "dumb blonde" stereotype a bit too far I thought with making Kelly so stupid that she couldn't read or spell and yeah your right as her intelligence dropped the character became much more slutty.

I agree 100% with what you said about Applegate I do agree that it was a good role because it gave her an opportunity to show that she could do more than just play an "airhead" which again she was known for at that time on Married With Children so perhaps in way this saved her from being sterotyped in the future. What do you think?

DTMTBD is a hilarious film. I understand why some associate it with the '80's since it kind of "seems" like a film from that era, but it was actually released to theaters in early Summer '91. However, 1991 was close enough to the end of the '80's that some of the music, fashion, etc. carried over.

One of the many reasons I really enjoyed the film was that, even as an adult, I could relate to the idea of being a kid & enjoying not having any adult supervision.

It's amusing that the long-haired kid who plays the oldest brother in the film was the grandson?! of the guy who played Uncle Fester in "The Addams Family" TV series - I think.

I've had the US HBO Video DVD release of this for years and I always found it funny that the rating on the back says PG when I'm pretty sure it is PG-13 in the US.
