United Kingdom The Cell 4K (Arrow Video)

Arrow - HMV

Quote:
HIS MIND IS HER PRISON

Sublime, grotesque and visually ravishing, Tarsem Singh’s debut feature delivers on the extraordinary artistry of his work in music video and commercials as it takes the audience on a journey through the bizarre worlds inside the mind of a killer.

When serial murderer Carl Stargher (Vincent D’Onofrio) falls into a coma with his latest victim still trapped in an unknown location and waiting to die, the FBI turn to psychologist Catherine Deane (Jennifer Lopez) for help. Using an experimental technology she enters the dark dreamscape of Stargher’s mind, attempting to learn his secrets before it’s too late. But his unconscious is a twisted nightmare, a labyrinth that threatens to trap her inside his terrifying world forever. To save a life, she’ll have to risk her own.

With a script by Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend), and a supporting cast that includes Vince Vaughn (Brawl in Cell Block 99) and Marianne Jean-Baptiste (In Fabric), The Cell is a gripping, edge-of-the-seat thriller, filled with jaw-dropping imagery that will entrance and unsettle in equal measure.

Never seen it, so might as well watch it for the first time in its best possible light!

Ordered with The Gift and The Usual Suspects.

The front artwork is really disappointing. They didn't even do an Arrow store exclusive. And why ain't they doing deluxe boxsets anymore? I really think they should've used Haruo Takino's original Japanese artwork.

They still do the slipcases for some titles; of the January releases, only Inglorious Bastards is getting one.

I’ve always been curious how they determine which route to take on packaging: slip case vs slipcover, new art or OG art (or both).

wow open matte version ? never thought we would get that - i have the HDTV version which is open matte and it looks stunning so a 2k master should look even better plus it will have lossless audio too - i wish more studios would release open matte films on physical discs (still bummed didnt get titanic, true lies and the abyss in open matte just like their tv versions) i find black bars on movies really distracting now and everyone has 1;78 tvs so why not do this more often and yes i get the framing is the directors version but at home we should get a different version. i hope arrow gets more versions like this (the long kiss goodnight next maybe ? ) that film needs a remaster

...slipcover artwork looks a little like some of 'The Game' (David Fincher) steelbooks released on Bluray.

That’s awesome. But wouldn’t be surprised if J Lo’s people denied (or never responded to inquiries) the use of her likeness for new home video art….and not knowing the legalities I wonder if that’s also the reason why there’s no “original art” release.

Other thread mentioned that The Cell release has (possible) authoring issues. Any updates on this? Has there been confirmation that Arrow is aware of the issue?

ATTN: There is a problem with the directors cut of The Cell. There are missing frames and a duplicate shot between 15:16-15:50. The theatrical cut is fine.
Nice, I chose to order this from elsewhere and just checked it's already at "preparing for shipping" state. Possible replacement scheme will be fun fun. Getting correct extras disc for one of Bruce flicks (TWotD) was a real battle for me. Took almost a month and +10 messages to CS back and forth. As an added bonus there was customs issues because replacement disc did not arrive in IOSS mode.

Strange. No mention about any authoring issues in that review. Maybe specific player related incompatibility issue?

Authoring issues are almost never mentioned in these reviews, and to be fair nobody brought it up until that twitter post from two days ago, even tho it's blatantly obvious.
