United Kingdom Dissent & Disruption: The Complete Alan Clarke at the BBC

I feel this one needs a thread of it's own. On May 23rd, the BFI will release a mammoth, limited edition 13 disc Blu-Ray set titled Dissent & Disruption: The Complete Alan Clarke at the BBC.

Quote:
The BFI will release two DVD box sets and a complete Blu-ray box set with extensive newly created special features:

Alan Clarke at the BBC, Volume 1: Dissent (1969-1977) - 6-DVD box set
Includes newly remastered presentations of all surviving Alan Clarke BBC TV productions up to 1977, as well as filmed introductions by writer David Leland, extracts from BBC discussion shows Tonight and Arena, new multi-part documentary Alan Clarke: Out of His Own Light, audio commentaries and a booklet containing new essays and full credits.
Release date: 23 May

Alan Clarke at the BBC, Volume 2: Disruption (1978-1989) - 6-DVD box set
Includes newly remastered presentations of all Alan Clarke BBC TV productions from 1978 to 1989, as well as filmed introductions by writer David Leland, extracts from BBC discussion show Open Air, new multi-part documentary Alan Clarke: Out of His Own Light, footage from Alan Clarke’s unbroadcast documentary Bukovsky (1977), two versions of The Firm, audio commentaries and a booklet containing new essays and full credits.
Release date: 20 June

Dissent & Disruption: The Complete Alan Clarke at the BBC - Limited Edition 13-Disc Blu-ray box set
Includes all surviving BBC TV productions directed by Alan Clarke, extensive extra features (as detailed above), a comprehensive book with new essays and full credits, and an exclusive bonus DVD containing the seven surviving Half Hour Story episodes directed by Clarke: Shelter (1967), The Gentleman Caller (1967, previously considered lost), George’s Room (1967, previously considered partially lost); Goodnight Albert (1968), Stella (1968), The Fifty Seventh Saturday (1968) and Thief (1968, previously considered lost).
Release date: 23 May

Also on 23 May, The Firm will be released in a stand-alone Blu-ray edition, presenting the newly-discovered Director’s Cut and the original broadcast version in High Definition for the very first time.
Quite possibly the most impressive, if not the most ambitious, release the BFI have ever put together.

Guess because it's Film4, who appear to have abandoned BD for their UK releases. If you are happy to pay the price it is available from Twilight Time for $25, although has been down to $15 in their infrequent sales.

I know a lot of people don't trust Zavvi for limited stuff, but it's also £99 there and shipping (at least to the states) is only £.99

Of course they don't remove VAT, but still a lower end cost for those outside of tree UK.

Zavii seems to generate an unusual number of complaints re damaged LE box sets.

Also haven't Zavvi let some people down with LE pre-orders, telling them at the last moment they can't supply the product when it has gone OOP before release date?

I doubt Dissent & Disruption is likely to sell out like Arrow's Hellraiser and Deep Red releases, but still, better safe than sorry.

Yes they screwed some customers with the Arrow LEs which sold out before release day.

Also if arrives damaged is a nightmare. Not helped by them not sending replacement until they receive and have processed return (which can take another week). Going through this pain with their Crimson Peak steelbook, which arrived with the corner smashed in. Was obviously packaged like this as no obvious damage to the steelbook box they used

Pre-ordered @ Amazon. Impressive as this may be, it'll better come down to about a hundred. I just can't justify spending the kind a money they're asking for it right now!

(As to whether I can justify spending a hundred, let's just say I prefer to ignore that question... )

I do want to watch Baal in light of Bowie's passing, but don't want to buy a pricey boxset in order to watch it. (BBC Store doesn't have it either.) So hopefully it gets an individual release or is added to BFI Player; don't want to hunt down a low quality online version.

Hasn't dropped a penny since it was listed at Amazon. I like Zavvi's price but no way am I going to rely on them for a limited pre-order, despite their generally excellent discounts on BFI sets (while they're in stock, at least).

Really close to pulling the trigger on this one but a few things are holding me back.
Outside of Scum and the Firm (which I loved) I don't think I've seen any of the other stuff making this one hell of a blind buy.

Also is there any numbers to how many copies this is limited too?

Still hoping it drops to £100, as it is priced at HMV and Base.

Yeah, I was expecting a bigger price drop. Hoping for the price match too and Amazon do sometimes drop the price again a few days before release date on some BFI titles. I'll be keeping my pre-order whatever the price is now though.

Is Penda's Fen included in the box or just as a standalone?

Included according to BFI shop....

'This long-overdue collection finally brings together all twenty-three of the surviving stand-alone BBC TV dramas that Alan Clarke directed between 1969 and 1989, including such neglected classics as To Encourage the Others, Horace, Penda’s Fen, Diane, Contact, Christine and Elephant, and also includes Scum and the first ever presentation of Clarke’s original Director’s Cut of The Firm, assembled from his personal answer print, discovered in 2015.'
