Default DMP-BD30 / Samsung HDTV Incompatibility (What are my alternatives) Please Read Thanks

Hi, I love my DMP-BD30 Panasonic Prof 1.3 blu ray player. Thte picture quality on 1080p24 is beautiful, but I am very disappointed that it keeps flickering and flashing every time.

I've read in great details all the posts regarding these issues. I have the Samsung 4066F model, a beautiful display with the BD30.

If I were to purchase Onkyo SR605, take HDMI out from BD30 to Onkyo, and then from Onkyo to Samsung will it solve the problem? I don't want to shell out another $500 (geez).

I have 9 days to return the player. I wonder if Panasonic will ever fix the issue. They have the DMP-BD50 coming out which is Profile 2.0, but I'm wondering if the same problem will exist with Samsung incompatibility.

When I set the modes to 1080p/24 on the DMP-BD30 and watch the actual movie, I don't have any problems. The image is stable; however, the minute I switch to the bonus features which are in 1080i or 480i (SD), the flickering begins, so it seems to be an issue with the resolution and i/p settings.

Has anyone tried hooking up your BD30 to Onkyo then to Samsung? I would love to know. I'm trying to make the best decision possible. I don't need a game console like a PS3, and the Sony's are no good because they don't have bitstream output.

Or wait for the BD50?

Help and thanks to all you people

I am by no means an expert on this...But maybe there is an issue between the 24fps output and your TV

I did a search on your TV and couldn't find anything about it being 1080/24p capable.

Spec sheets normally specify that since it's a major feature for blu.

I can tell you that I own the BD30 and a true 1080/24p TV and get no flickers. In fact it is a visual dream come true - nirvana for the eyes.

I don't believe the problem is with the player. My suggestion - turn off 24p. If you still get the flicker then it's the player. If the flicker goes it's your TV not being 24p capable that's the problem.

24 fps cannot be selected on the BD30 if the TV cannot support it.

Default Update

Hello, thanks all for your posts. Actually the 4066F model *does* support true 1080p/24... in the info screen it says 1080 x 1920 24hz. It plays 24p beautifully. I watched Pearl Harbor on Blu Ray and all three hours not a single problem. When I went into the bonus feature in 480i, it started jumping across the screen like mad.

I took the unit to Best Buy. We connected it to a Samsung 4071 which had some slight flicker when powering on the unit; but we could not recreate the issue; then we connected it to a Samsung 4061F an older model than the 66 series; it also accepted the 24p signal and played the movie with no issues, but this time when we went into the 480i bonus feature it flickered and the picture was jupming off the screen, the exact same issue.

My sales person was shocked and couldn't believe his eyes! So we both decided it was best to return the DMP-BD30. Don't get me wrong the picture quality on this unit is OUTSTANDING, but unfortunately I spent $650 on the player and HDMI cable and I can't live with this problem so it had to be returned

At this time I will have to wait until teh DMP-BD50 comes out. Hopefully the issue is fixed, but even though there is no "24p support" in the specs on the 61 and 66 series they DO support it; I'm surprised why Samsung does not putit in their spec sheet. The Samsung 4061, 65 and 71 display 1920 x 1080 - 24hz.

I'm also waiting because I want to purchase a Profile 2.0 player; hopefully the DMP-BD50, again, will solve these issues for me. If you take your unit and hook it up to the 61 and 65 and 66 series trust me you will see these issues. I noticed your monitor is a Sony, and the Panasonic has NO issues with flickering on any of the LCDs except for Samsung.

Asaf

Its a chipset mismatch between what Samsung used in that series of sets and what Pannasonic uses now.
I doubt it will be "fixed".

It's a shame you couldn't try the avr at the store.

Default Have you solved problem?

I am having the same problem you describe with my Blu-ray DMP-BD30 and my Samsung 1080p TV. When the HDMI connection is set to either 1080p or "Auto" I get horrible flickering. The picture is unwatchable. When I set the connection to 1080i, however, the flickering stops. But at the 1080i setting I'm obviously not getting the highest quality picture I would be getting at the 1080p setting. So unless someone out there has figured out how to solve this problem, I guess I have no choice but to send the Panasonic Blu-ray player back for a refund and purchase some other Blu-ray player.

Anybody out there who has had this Samsung problem and actually solved it?

Some have reported success in running the unit through an AVR first to isolate the BD30 and the Samsung LCD.
