Hey all,
tl;dr: Is the following title naming convention correct for adding releases to the database? For foreign (read French, Spanish, German, ...) releases of both English as well as non-English movies (omits the original name for non-English movies): Quote:
Quote:
Long version: The help says: Quote:
Example 1: English Release of the German movie "Keinohrhasen", English release is translated to "Rabbit Without Ears". We are in the first part of the help paragraph, English DVD/BR, so: Quote:
Example 2: Foreign Release (German) "Baymax - Riesiges Robowabohu" of the US movie "Big Hero 6". We are now in the second part of the help paragraph for foreign DVDs/BDs: Quote:
I am mostly seeing exactly the opposite with the English title going first and the foreign one going in parentheses. For this movie and countless others that's the case (https://www.blu-ray.com/Big-Hero-6/238316/#Releases). Am I misunderstanding something here? So, to me, the actual lived-by rule seems to be: English title ALWAYS first, foreign title (either from this particular release or for english releases of foreign movies the original title) goes in parentheses. Additionally, one part of the help text Quote:
Pleaaase enlighten me, what the actual rule is. In my opinion, the one stated in the help text (Example 1 and 2) is the most logical, although it sadly seems to omit the original title for foreign releases in not-orginal language: Example 3: German release "Die fabelhafte Welt der Amélie" of French movie "Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain" should be named (English title is just "Amélie"): Quote:
Again I am often seeing "Foreign Title (Original Title)", also for this particular movie: https://www.blu-ray.com/Amelie/20572/#Releases, so the rule seems also not be followed here often? I dont want to stir up an unnessesary ruckus, but I want to contribute with a correct naming scheme going forward. Maybe some senior members or approving staff could give a definitve answer and by any chance correct the help text one way or another. Thanks :-) Last edited by Xenothar; 07-14-2024 at 11:19 AM. |
