These three in particular for me represent the height of being in a theater full of strangers.
Even though The Sixth Sense isn't even in my top 50 movies, I'll never forget the collective gasp when everyone at the same time understood what was going on. It was magic. All of the Matrix. Every minute from the Trinity fight at the beginning to Neo flying away at the end. Never had seen anything like it before and it filled me with joy and excitement. ![]() Endgame. You can have all the nitpicks you want about the plot but nothing even remotely comes close to my experience in a sold out theater. From Cap wielding Mjolnir to hearing Sam say "On your left". Pure bliss that I don't think I'll ever see again. ![]() What are your favorite experiences in a theater? |

Best theater experiences: Empire Strikes Back Aliens Avengers Infinity War and Endgame Running the last official versions of the Star Wars Trilogy to 700 rabid fans before the SEs. I recorded that, too (not all of it). I have others bit it's late, I'll update my list. |

1. When I took one of my family members to go see the first Jackass in a pack theater. Looking back now, I was young and stupid. But made for cool memory.
2. When I discovered Harold and Kumar. The movie hardly had any marketing at all, so me and my friend went there totally blind. We had a rea kick through the movie cause we didn't know what to expect at all, so everything was random. Now the movie has become a cult following, which I didn't expect at that time. 3. First introduced to Kate Winslet on the big screen in Titanic. Nuff said. |

Yeah had family gatherings where we watched Jackass and CKY before. But watching the first movie in the theater was a little awkward cause I was slightly younger. Missed the rest in theaters, though. Due to bad timing. Second one came around during a very stormy era, lets put it that way. Kinda somewhat was starting to out grow the franchise by the third one. Was interested in seeing the old gang back again in Forever (sorta), but COVID happened.

![]() ![]() I remember watching in theatres when Smith says 'You're going to tell me or you're going to die' cut to Neo's boots entering the revolving door. I vividly remember literally moving to the edge of my seat in anticipation. Last edited by spider-neil; 01-16-2025 at 06:52 AM. |

I have countless memories of special cinematic experiences but these are three that I’d rank in my top 10.
Return of the Jedi- it was at the Arcade Theater in downtown Kissimmee. I remember it was at night and the line was outside and wrapped around the building. At the time I had never witnessed anything like that just for a movie. We sat toward the front. I wasn’t all that familiar with Star Wars but all the creatures and spectacle was exhilarating. Terminator 2: Judgment Day- we were all stoked and saw the first showing on release day, an afternoon matinee. The way I remember it, my dad, his brother, my siblings and maybe a few of my cousins. It was an energetic crowd with lots of cheering and laughing The Avengers we went to a midnight screening at AMC downtown Disney and the theater was packed. I had never seen so many auditoriums showing the same movie to accommodate all the droves of excited guests. I ran into a group of work friends and one of my buddies was dressed as Nick Fury. When we left the cinema around 3:00AM, the parking lot was as full as ever and looked like a busy weekend night at 7:00pm, it was a sight to behold. |

Terminator 2
I can remember the anticipation and build up for this movie. At it's first showing, it was standing room only before going in the theater. But, when it was revealed that the T-800 (Arnold Schwarzenegger) was the defender of John, the collective gasps, and awes were epic. I could not leave my seat after that. The Avengers
I remember literally getting goosebumps when Thor fights the Hulk. What I only read in the comics was on the big screen (the 70's TV match-up doesn't count). A Quiet Place People trying to eat their snacks without making a sound was surreal and hilarious Wakanda Forever Listening to sniffling and muffled sobs as the Marvel logo with images of Boseman plays in silence. |

Going further back, Superman 2. It was one of my early memories of film. The villains, that superb theme, the ice cream blocks being sold by staff at front of cinema, the programmes, which were glossy, full colour and really put me in the mood for the film. Avatar was pretty cool in 3D too. Loads of great memories though, would take me a week to type them out. T2 the champion though, my finest two hours in a cinema. (Apart from back row stuff, but that’s for another time) ![]() |

I watched AVP at the Theatre in Texas whilst on holiday.
It was the first time I witnessed hollering, whooping and clapping whilst watching a film. It's very much not done in the UK, or if so on very rare occasions I didn't care for it much ![]() |

The Empire Strikes Back. The enormity of the screen, and probably my distance from it, forced me to turn my head to read the scroll as peripheral vision wasn't enough. Aside from that, I prefer movies at home and get nothing from the theater experience. I can't stand audience reactions interrupting my enjoyment.

I used to see a lot of Disney animated movies with my parents when I was little, but the first movie I demanded to see, and didn't let go until they agreed, was Batman Returns (I was about 10 years old). A lot of parents complained about the movie being too dark but I LOVED every second of it. That's why to this day, Batman Returns is my favourite Batman movie, Burton my favourite director, Elfman favourite composer and Keaton my nr. 1 Batman.
Couple of years ago, I had the chance of meeting Keaton who signed my Batman Returns poster. Good memories! |

Batman Summer, 1989. Months of hype. Decades before we had reserved seating. Four of us from work managed to get that Friday off, left (ha ha) super early so we could see the first show. We get to the theater, and every screening is sold out already. Next theater, same. Third, fourth... No tickets. Finally found tickets available at the crappy concrete block mall theater, at 10pm. We spent the rest of the day at the mall; ate at the food court, played our way thru both arcades, listened to the Cure's entire "Disintegration" album at Camelot Music... Looking back, it was the most 80s day ever, and then at the end we got to see Batman! The 10pm crowd was hyped up like I wouldn't see again until The Force Awakens & Endgame, thirty years later. The screen was tiny, the sound system was kinda shitty, and nobody cared. We poured out of that theater around midnight absolutely giddy. A fantastic day.
