I’ve been so close to pulling the trigger on the Universal disc so many times, but I knew it was only a matter of time before we got a reissue. It was a typical Universal catalog title with an ancient DVD-era master, and most of those have been getting solid upgrades from boutique labels, and I had a feeling Kino might have this. Had no idea they would release it to 4K though.

Happy we can finally welcome John Waters on UHD.

Considering the directors cut has only been on dvd im gonna go out on the limb and say theatrical only, Cant imagine them spending the money to remaster two different scans.

WAC is supposedly releasing it themselves but they've been mum on it for a better part of a year.

Good to know! I thought it was another one CC was sitting on, like so many titles. I hope WAC does it soon, especially with the lead coming back into power at Warner.

Hopefully it has the director's cut; I've never gone back to the theatrical version, the extra bits really flavor the film.

If Kino really want to wow us, they can also include the TV cut with the extra songs edited back in...

That was conjecture from another user on this very forum, if you're thinking of what I'm thinking of.

The film has always been under New Line's control and by all accounts was likely properly stored unlike John Waters' early films. Even so, Multiple Maniacs was stored in an attic and was completely salvaged from the brink.

Even if it's still in good shape it's obviously a process to remaster anyway of course.
