It's a close one, but I'd give the edge to Day of the Dead.

As much as I like Day of the Dead (it was the only Romero zombie movie I liked straight away upon my first viewing), I have to go with Zombie. Only saw it for the first time a couple years ago but have already watched it a bunch. It just oozes atmosphere, and I love the locations, special effects and score. It also leans more towards the voodoo brand of zombies, which I've always favored more than the Romero-esque flesheaters. But it does a cool job sort of mixing the two types together.

Although Day of the Dead does my most favorite character out of all the Romero Dead films:

"What does it matter, Sarah darling?"

Day of the Dead. No contest. Zombi has handful memorable moments and images, but nothing to really add to the conversation.

Zombi had creepy Island atmosphere and memorable insane moments (shark vs zombie, splinter in the eye), DotD was too cold and with too many unsympathetic characters for my liking.

Zombi gets my vote.

Yeah, people would be more sympathetic and happy during a zombie apocalypse. Have you looked outside?
